Position Specific Description

Manatee Lagoon – An FPL Eco-Discovery Center is seeking a full-time Education & Outreach Associate Project Manager to support the center's educational programming, community outreach initiatives, and day-to-day operations. This position serves as a primary subject matter expert on manatees, Lake Worth Lagoon, and Florida Power & Light's role in the local ecosystem while acting as one of the center's primary public ambassadors.

The successful candidate will oversee educational programming for school groups, summer camps, public programs, lectures, and community events while coordinating outreach efforts, supporting operational needs, and facilitating the scheduling of the center's part-time Manatee Masters. This role requires exceptional communication, organizational, and project management skills, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, public-facing environment.

The Education & Outreach Associate Project Manager will work closely with the Education & Conservation Project Manager to evaluate and enhance existing programming, develop new educational initiatives, support special events, maintain educational resources, and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality guest experiences.

Candidates should possess experience in environmental education, conservation, interpretation, or a related field, with demonstrated success in public speaking, program coordination, and stakeholder engagement. This position is required to work up to three weekend days per month to support facility operations, educational programming, and special events.

Job Overview

Employees in this position are responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering educational programming and community outreach initiatives that advance Manatee Lagoon's mission of environmental education, conservation, and community engagement while supporting daily facility operations.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

- Serve as an ambassador and subject matter expert for Manatee Lagoon by delivering educational programs, tours, and public presentations to diverse audiences.

- Plan, coordinate, and continuously improve educational programming, including school field trips, summer camps, public programs, and community events.

- Manage relationships with teachers, schools, camp directors, and community partners, coordinating program scheduling and communications.

- Lead community outreach efforts by representing Manatee Lagoon at off-site events and maintaining outreach materials and resources.

- Coordinate staffing and scheduling for part-time Manatee Masters to support daily operations, educational programming, outreach, and special events.

- Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, and development of Manatee Masters to ensure consistent program excellence.

- Track and maintain program participation data, educational metrics, and operational records to support reporting and continuous improvement.

- Provide center operational and administrative support , including project coordination, event planning, and Manager on Duty responsibilities as assigned.

- Foster a safe, welcoming, and engaging visitor experience while promoting environmental stewardship and Manatee Lagoon's mission.

- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

The ideal cadnidate will have the following:

- Strong public speaking, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills

- Experience coordinating educational programs, community outreach, or public events

- Strong organizational, time management, and project coordination skills

- Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business software

- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and occasional evenings

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Education, Marine Science, Conservation, or a related field

- Experience supervising or coordinating part-time staff or volunteers

- Experience delivering both in-person and virtual educational programming

- Familiarity with environmental interpretation, informal science education, or visitor center operations

- Experience working with schools, community organizations, or nonprofit educational programs
