As a Surety Underwriting Intern, you'll work alongside experienced underwriters to learn how surety bonds support economic growth, commercial development, and infrastructure projects. You'll gain hands-on experience in financial analysis, risk assessment, and relationship management while helping businesses secure the bonding capacity needed to pursue opportunities and fulfill contractual obligations.

What You'll Do

- Analyze financial statements, credit information, and business operations to evaluate risk.
- Support underwriting decisions for new and existing surety accounts.
- Learn how surety bonds support construction, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
- Participate in account evaluations, underwriting recommendations, and risk assessments.
- Build relationships with underwriters, agents, brokers, and customers.
- Develop analytical, communication, and project management skills through real-world assignments.

Internship Experience & Development

Our 11-week internship combines formal training, structured learning, mentorship, and hands-on work designed to accelerate your professional growth. Throughout  the summer, you'll:

- Receive support from a People Leader, Learning Advisor, and Program Manager.
- Complete a structured Surety curriculum and underwriting exercises.
- Gain exposure to multiple areas of the business through job shadows and agency visits.
- Work on a meaningful project and present your results during a final capstone presentation.
- Build your professional network through interactions with peers, leaders, and underwriting professionals.

You'll also be introduced to the Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding (AFSB) curriculum, gaining foundational knowledge in surety underwriting, credit analysis, contract underwriting, and the surety bonding process.

Successful interns gain valuable underwriting experience, industry knowledge, and professional connections that can help prepare them for future opportunities within Global Surety, including consideration for full-time roles following graduation.

Our Summer 2027 Early Talent internships are a set 11-weeks in length, with 2 options for start/end dates. Limited exceptions to these start/end dates may be considered on a case-by-case basis :

- May 17, 2027 - July 30, 2027
- June 1, 2027 - August 13, 2027
Qualifications
What you’ve got

- You are pursuing a bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or comparable with at least one semester remaining following the Summer of 2027 with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA .
- You have 0-2 years of professional experience.
- You possess strong analytical, decision-making, and negotiating skills.
- You have solid interpersonal skills and demonstrate a passion for customer service and fostering relationships.
- You must be available to work full-time for 11 weeks
- You must have permanent work authorization in the United States

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
