Job Summary:

Salas O'Brien is seeking a Senior Electrical Draftsman to support the Scorpius program in Los Alamos, New Mexico. This position will work closely with electrical engineers and multidisciplinary project teams to develop, revise, and maintain accurate electrical design, fabrication, installation, and as-built documentation for complex mission-critical systems. The successful candidate will bring strong electrical drafting experience, advanced CAD skills, and a disciplined approach to drawing standards, configuration control, field verification, and document quality.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare, revise, and maintain electrical drawings under the direction of electrical engineers and project technical leads.

- Develop and update single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring and interconnection diagrams, cable schedules, panel layouts, raceway/conduit drawings, equipment layouts, grounding/bonding details, and related drawing packages.

- Translate engineering markups, calculations, sketches, specifications, field notes, and design inputs into clear, accurate, and constructible drawings.

- Perform drawing revisions, redline incorporation, and as-built updates while maintaining revision history and configuration control.

- Participate in field walkdowns and verification activities to validate existing conditions and identify drawing discrepancies.

- Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, structural, controls, and other disciplines to resolve drawing interfaces and maintain consistency across design packages.

- Apply project, client, and industry drafting standards, symbols, naming conventions, layer standards, and document-control requirements.

- Support drawing reviews, comment resolution, design-change packages, material lists, and other project deliverables as required.

- Perform quality checks of drawings for completeness, accuracy, dimensions, references, and consistency before release.

- Provide technical guidance and drafting support to less-experienced designers and drafters without direct supervisory responsibility.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Eight (8) or more years of progressive electrical drafting/design experience supporting complex industrial, laboratory, nuclear, defense, infrastructure, or other highly regulated technical environments.

- Associate degree, technical diploma, or formal training in drafting, design technology, electrical technology, or a related field preferred; additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with AutoCAD Electrical and/or MicroStation is preferred.

- Demonstrated ability to interpret electrical engineering drawings, sketches, redlines, specifications, and design documentation.

- Working knowledge of electrical drafting conventions and applicable codes and standards, including NEC/NFPA 70; familiarity with IEEE, NEMA, DOE, or national-laboratory standards is a plus.

- Experience with formal drawing revision processes, document control, configuration management, and as-built documentation.

- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple drawing packages, priorities, and deadlines in a controlled technical environment.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineers, designers, field personnel, and project leadership.

- Ability to perform field walkdowns and work safely in active technical or industrial environments, as required.

- Must be a citizen of the United States of America.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.

Travel: Minimal. This role is primarily on-site in Los Alamos, New Mexico; occasional local travel between project facilities may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:

The expected hourly pay range for this role is $85,000-110,000 per year USD per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
