THE ROLE

AMD’s Quality Returns Debug team is seeking an RMA Failure Analysis Technician to support the inspection, triage, and documentation of returned GPU boards. You will help determine the condition of returned printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), run initial diagnostics, and provide engineers with accurate findings for deeper failure analysis. Your work will help the team maintain traceability, quality, and timely RMA turnaround.

THE PERSON

You are a hands-on electronics technician who works carefully, follows established procedures, and documents what you find clearly. You are comfortable troubleshooting boards and computer systems, using lab instruments, and managing several tasks in a fast-moving lab.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- RMA Receipt & Verification

- Receive and log incoming RMA GPU PCBAs.
- Verify part numbers, serial numbers, and revision levels against internal databases.
- Confirm alignment with system records.

- Triage & Inspection

- Perform visual inspection for physical damage, contamination, mechanical defects, or handling issues.
- Mount units in customer-equivalent servers/workstations when needed.
- Conduct initial triage using manufacturing test suites and diagnostic tools.
- Conduct basic electrical verification or functional screening as per triage instructions.
- Flashing BIOS versions, updating firmware, installing OS software.
- Follow other related tasks as instructed by Supervisor.

- Documentation & Database Management

- Accurately document triage observations and initial FA findings into internal FA databases.
- Attach supporting evidence such as high-resolution photos and test data.
- Ensure compliance with data integrity, traceability, and confidentiality requirements.

- Process Compliance & Continuous Improvement

- Adhere to established RMA handling and FA triage procedures.
- Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements to enhance throughput and accuracy.
- Support training and knowledge-sharing within the FA team.

- Lab and HW Maintenance

- Install and validate new test stations and hardware.
- Perform corrective and/or preventive maintenance to test stations as required.
- Maintain inventory of test equipment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

- Experience in electronics repair, triage, or manufacturing quality inspection, and experience in RMA handling.
- Working knowledge of PCBAs, ESD practices, electronics troubleshooting, and computer hardware assembly.
- Ability to read schematics and use instruments such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
- Experience with Linux or a similar operating system command line.
- Experience entering data, generating reports, and documenting technical findings; proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organization and attention to detail, with the ability to follow standard procedures, work independently, and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Experience with GPU boards or complex PCBAs, failure analysis, ISO 9001 or IPC-A-610, and basic soldering or rework is an asset. IPC-7711/7721 certification is also an asset.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS

College diploma or technical certificate in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
