Are you excited about using AI to solve real operational problems at global scale? Amazon is looking for a Software Development Engineer II to design and deliver the automation tools and AI-powered services that keep our worldwide network infrastructure running. In this role, you will build products that put intelligent technology directly in the hands of network engineers, helping them deploy, manage, debug, and maintain infrastructure across thousands of Amazon sites.
You will work across a broad product portfolio that includes web platforms, command-line tools, AI-powered agents, downtime coordination systems, and dynamic authorization services. You will own your solutions end-to-end, from design through production, on a modern AWS stack that includes ECS Fargate, Bedrock, DynamoDB, OpenSearch, and Lambda. Key job responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate full-stack tools and AI-powered services used by network engineers across thousands of Amazon sites, owning features end-to-end from requirements through deployment and operations.
- Develop and improve AI agents that use large language models to automate operational workflows such as infrastructure debugging, intelligent Q&A, and deployment coordination.
- Build and enhance the downtime window management system that Site Operations teams rely on to coordinate maintenance activities, manage automated deployment reservations, and prevent scheduling conflicts.
- Partner with network engineers, systems engineers, and product managers to turn operational pain points into scalable, self-service solutions spanning web UIs, CLIs, and authorization systems.
- Mentor peers through code reviews and design discussions, identify service bottlenecks, and drive operational improvements that raise the quality bar for the entire team.
A day in the life
You will start your day reviewing deployment metrics and checking on the health of the services your team owns. From there you might jump into writing a new feature for an AI agent, pair with a teammate on a tricky authorization policy change, or dig into logs to root-cause an issue a network engineer reported. You will regularly work with Site Operations and product managers to prioritize what to build next, and your ideas for improving services carry real weight in the team's planning process.

About the team
Our team builds the automation tools and AI-powered experiences that keep Amazon's global network running. We own a portfolio of products that network engineers and site operators depend on daily to deploy, manage, and debug infrastructure. Our customers work across thousands of Amazon sites worldwide, and the reliability of our tools directly impacts their ability to keep those sites online. We are growing our AI capabilities and looking for engineers who are eager to shape what we build next. You will have the opportunity to identify bottlenecks, propose solutions, and grow into broader responsibilities as the team and product portfolio expand.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
