Job Overview
Jensen Hughes is seeking a motivated, proactive, and relationship-driven Business Development Specialist – Healthcare & Emergency Management (HCEM) to support the continued growth of our Healthcare and Emergency Management service line. This role will be responsible for executing business development initiatives with a focus on new client acquisition, expansion of existing client relationships, lead and opportunity development, and consistent management and follow-through of business development activity.
The Business Development Specialist will work closely with the HCEM Business Development Manager, HCEM leadership, Operations, regional Business Development teams, Marketing, and other internal stakeholders to execute established growth priorities and identify new opportunities. This individual will support targeted client outreach, account development, lead generation, pursuit activities, renewals, and pipeline management while ensuring consistent follow-through from initial engagement through opportunity development and proposal.
Our goal is to hire a business development professional who is highly proactive, organized, and relationship-oriented and can help turn HCEM growth priorities into consistent business development activity and results. The individual will serve as a day-to-day resource connecting clients, Business Development, and Operations while helping position the full capabilities of Jensen Hughes to support both HCEM growth and broader company-wide opportunities.
This will be a full-time salaried position without commission.
Responsibilities:
- Execute business development activities aligned with HCEM's annual growth objectives, target markets, priority accounts, and strategic initiatives.
- Proactively identify and develop new leads and opportunities through targeted outreach, existing client relationships, industry involvement, internal referrals, and other business development initiatives.
- Conduct consistent outreach to prospective and existing clients through calls, emails, meetings, industry events, campaigns, and other relationship-development activities.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and prospects while developing an understanding of their organizations, priorities, challenges, and potential needs.
- Support the expansion of existing HCEM accounts by identifying opportunities for additional services, cross-selling, renewals, and broader Jensen Hughes capabilities.
- Maintain consistent follow-up on leads and opportunities, ensuring next steps are identified, documented, and completed to help opportunities progress through the sales pipeline.
- Support pursuits from lead through close, including client coordination, internal follow-up, proposal development, qualifications, scope and fee development, and coordination with technical and operational teams.
- Partner with the HCEM Business Development Manager and Operations to engage the appropriate technical resources and subject matter experts throughout the business development and pursuit process.
- Serve as a connector between HCEM Business Development, Operations including pre- and post-project teams and clients to support strong communication and continuity throughout the client relationship.
- Maintain accurate and timely business development information within company systems, including client activity, leads, opportunities, pipeline, proposals, orders, renewals, and other key growth indicators.
- Consistently utilize established business development processes and tools to provide visibility into activity, opportunity progression, client engagement, and results.
- Support priority account and client development plans by coordinating outreach, meetings, follow-up activities, internal resources, and next steps.
- Develop relationships at multiple levels within key accounts to strengthen Jensen Hughes' position, expand relationships, and identify future opportunities.
- Support client retention and renewal efforts by proactively tracking upcoming renewals, coordinating internal resources, and maintaining consistent client engagement.
- Clearly communicate the value of Jensen Hughes' services and connect client needs with the appropriate technical expertise, solutions, and capabilities across the organization.
- Develop a strong understanding of HCEM services and the broader Jensen Hughes service portfolio to recognize and communicate potential cross-selling opportunities.
- Maintain awareness of healthcare and emergency management industry trends, client challenges, competitive activity, regulatory changes, and emerging opportunities.
- Participate in industry events, conferences, associations, and other client-facing activities to strengthen relationships, increase market awareness, and generate new business opportunities.
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability for assigned business development activities and initiatives while maintaining a highly collaborative, team-oriented approach.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred, and/or two (2) plus years’ experience as in business development and/or account management .
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred.
- Experience with government contract tracking systems or platforms used to monitor and research federal, state, or local government opportunities preferred.
- Experience working for a professional services firm preferred.
- General knowledge and confidence using computer databases and menu-driven reports.
- Self-starter who works well independently and is self-motivated, with a bias for action.
- Project coordination and organizational skills, attention to detail, and initiative to follow through.
- Consistently perform at a high level in fast-paced and high-pressure environments.
- Work with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
- Exceptional Customer Service and strong listening skills.
- Able to look at things multidimensionally and able to come to a unique and innovative plan or solution if a problem is identified.
While this position is fully remote, candidates based in New England, particularly Connecticut, are preferred. Candidates outside of the region are welcome to apply, and a willingness to travel to our Connecticut or New York office approximately quarterly is preferred.

Jensen Hughes offers a competitive total rewards package, which includes a retirement plan, healthcare coverage, and a broad range of other benefits. Incentives and/or benefit packages may vary depending on the position and location.
National Pay Range $65,000 — $80,000 USD
