Job Description

OTHON is seeking a full-time, on-site Senior Transportation Planner for our Austin, TX office. The position supports our Transportation Planning and Data Analytics group and will lead and support transportation planning studies for TxDOT, MPOs, transit agencies, municipalities, counties, and other public agencies.

The Senior Transportation Planner will contribute to corridor, mobility, safety, multimodal, evacuation and emergency route, transit, curbside mobility, and corridor safety studies, while also supporting project management, client coordination, quality review, and business development activities.

Responsibilities

- Lead and support corridor, mobility, safety, and multimodal planning studies, including evacuation and emergency route planning, transit and curbside mobility studies, and corridor safety analyses.

- Conduct traffic data collection and analysis, origin-destination studies, GIS analysis and mapping, crash and safety analyses, and travel pattern evaluations supporting project development.

- Develop or review traffic projections and support travel demand modeling tasks.

- Prepare benefit-cost analyses, funding and programming analyses, and grant application support, including Unified Transportation Program coordination.

- Prepare technical reports, planning documents, presentations, and recommendations for clients and public agencies.

- Coordinate with TxDOT districts and divisions, MPOs, transit agencies, municipalities, counties, and other project stakeholders.

- Support public involvement and stakeholder engagement, including meetings with agency staff, elected officials, and community stakeholders.

- Develop planning methodologies, dashboards, maps, and other analytical tools supporting project evaluation and decision making.

- Provide guidance and quality review on planning deliverables and mentor junior planning staff.

- Assist with business development and project management, including scope development, schedules, budgets, and client coordination, and contribute to proposals and statements of qualifications.

- Periodic travel to project locations is required.

- Perform other transportation planning and related duties as assigned based on project and business needs.

Minimum Skills and Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Transportation or Civil Engineering, Urban/Regional Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu.

- Working proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, including data creation and editing, attribute management, symbology, and map layouts.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

- Strong analytical and technical writing skills, with attention to detail.

- Ability to manage multiple assignments under deadlines and communicate progress proactively.

- Ability to coordinate with clients, public agencies, project teams, and other stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

- Experience with TxDOT, MPO, city, county, transit agency, or other public-sector transportation planning deliverables and review processes.

- Travel demand modeling or traffic forecasting using TransCAD, Cube, or similar tools.

- Traffic operations software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, TransModeler, or HCS.

- ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, Experience Builder, or Python scripting for GIS workflows.

- Data analysis and visualization tools such as Python, SQL, R, or Power BI.

- PE, EIT, or AICP certification.
