About this role
Come join Intuit Credit Karma as a Staff Software Engineer on the Credit team.
Our Credit team builds the systems that help millions of members understand their credit, see where they stand, and find financial products they actually qualify for. The work spans high-volume data ingestion from bureaus and partners, the services that model and surface a member's credit profile, and the recommendation and eligibility logic that connects members to offers.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll operate as a technical leader across multiple teams. You'll set direction on architecture that others build against, take on the problems where the right approach isn't yet obvious, and raise the engineering bar through design review, mentorship, and the standards you establish. This is a hands-on role: you'll still write and review code, but your leverage comes from decisions that shape systems well beyond what you personally build.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for complex, cross-team initiatives in the credit domain, from problem framing through architecture, delivery, and operation in production
- Design and build distributed services that handle high request volumes and sensitive financial data with strong reliability, latency, and correctness guarantees
- Identify the highest-leverage technical problems facing the team and drive them to resolution, including work that spans organizational boundaries
- Partner closely with product, data science, analytics, and risk to translate ambiguous business goals into durable technical plans
- Raise engineering quality across the org through design reviews, code reviews, testing strategy, observability, and incident response practices
- Mentor and grow engineers, helping senior engineers take on larger scope and develop their own technical judgment
- Make deliberate tradeoffs between speed and long-term maintainability, and communicate the reasoning clearly to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders
- Contribute to the team's technical roadmap and influence platform and tooling decisions that affect adjacent teams
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant time at a senior or staff level
- Demonstrated ownership of large-scale distributed systems in production, including design, scaling, and operational responsibility
- Track record of technical leadership across teams, influencing outcomes through design and persuasion rather than authority
- Experience mentoring engineers and improving engineering practices at a team or organizational level
- Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to make technical tradeoffs legible to product and business partners
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
