About this role
Summary
Responsible for coordinating and providing technical support for outdoor warning sirens and all radio system equipment including radio infrastructure components, trunk controllers, dispatch consoles, secondary power systems, microwave communications equipment and subscriber units.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned .
- Maintains an accurate inventory of all Radio Infrastructure components, as well as coordinate various infrastructure projects.
- Maintains radio databases and subscriber fleet inventories. Maintains public safety radio system.
- Maintains and repairs mobiles, portables and fixed base stations.
- Maintains Point-to-Point Microwave systems, as well as maintains Storm and Flood Siren Infrastructure.
- Development of subscriber codeplugs using Motorola Customer Programming Software.
- Keeps informed of industry standards and trends and attends seminars, conferences and professional organization meetings.
- Documents and maintain records of preventative maintenance schedules. Prepares written documents for City Administration as requested by manager.
- Maintains ongoing communication with all radio stakeholders.
- Maintains tower lighting systems per FAA requirements.
- Maintains strong and effective relationships with Partner entities that utilize the Radio System, as well as with support vendors and manufacturers.
- Participate in on-call support as needed after-hours, weekends and holidays.
- Operate sophisticated test equipment to analyze and assess radio system performance.
- Serve as a mentor to coach and train radio system staff on the operation and maintenance of system components.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two-year college degree, formal technical training or a combination of college and training
- Three years of successful experience in the administration, operation and maintenance of land mobile radio systems
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job .
Preferred Qualifications
Education/ Experience:
- Four-year college degree
- Formal training in radio communication systems
- More than four years of experience in radio programming, installation, repair and electrical theory
- Certified Electronics Technician (CET) Journeyman-Level
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
- Working knowledge of Motorola 800MHz Simulcast radio systems
- Working knowledge of Motorola Gold Elite Dispatch consoles networks
- Working knowledge of Motorola subscriber programming software
- Knowledge of VHF, UHF, 800MHz, 6GHz and 11GHz frequencies
- Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations
- Knowledge of various radio communication systems
- Skill in effective communication
- Skill in basic computer operations
- Basic networking skills
- Ability to perform several tasks as assigned
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid class C Texas driver’s license
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

The incumbent works in a typical office environment; occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. The position requires that the employee be able to lift 50 pounds, work in close / cramped areas, work in dusty conditions, work in low-light conditions and be able to sit, stand, kneel, crouch and bend for brief periods of time. The position requires that the employee be able to work while standing on a ladder or other appropriate device to elevate the employee to the level of the work. The employee must be able to use fingers to feel and have sufficient dexterity to sort and hold small wires and install small connectors into sockets. The employee must be able to discern a broad spectrum of colors used in network cable. The position requires occasional outside work and the ability to work on-call as needed for urgent issues.
