Whitecliffe is a leading independent tertiary institution with campuses in Auckland, Manukau, Wellington, and Christchurch, known for innovative, industry-connected education. With growing student numbers in our postgraduate programmes, we are building a pool of New Zealand-based contractors to supervise Master of Information Technology (MIT) students for our November 2026 intake .
The opportunity: Research Supervisor (contract aligned with trimester end dates)
You will guide MIT students through their applied research or practical projects in their final trimester. You will:
- Supervise students in your area of specialty, helping them develop and refine research questions, methodology, and project design
- Ensure students' work is relevant to the New Zealand context, including its industry, regulatory, and cultural environment
- Provide structured, constructive feedback on research design, progress, and written work
- Hold regular online check-ins with your students
- Keep the required supervision records and documentation up to date
- Work with the programme team to maintain consistent academic standards

About you
- Based in New Zealand, with the right to work in New Zealand
- A Master's degree or higher (PhD desirable), and/or significant professional experience, in IT, Cyber Security, Data Science, Software and Web, AI, Cloud Infrastructure, or a related field
- Previous experience supervising postgraduate students (Master's level or equivalent applied research or project supervision)
- Deep knowledge of at least one specialty area, with the ability to support students in applying it within a New Zealand context
- Familiarity with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its relevance to research and practice in Aotearoa
- Familiarity with applied research methods, including qualitative, quantitative, and design-based approaches
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
- A collaborative, reliable approach to working remotely with programme teams and students
