Manager of Sustainability

Overall Job Summary

This position is responsible for managing and implementing corporate sustainability programs that support the Company’s business objectives, regulatory obligations, and sustainability priorities. Reporting to the Sr. Vice President (SVP) of Investor Relations (IR), this position serves as a subject matter expert and advisor on sustainability topics, including circularity, waste reduction, recycling, packaging reduction, greenhouse gas emissions, climate, and emerging sustainability legislation. As a subject matter expert resource, this position works cross-functionally with business partners to translate sustainability objectives into practical programs, and processes to measurable results.

The Manager monitors emerging sustainability requirements and trends, manages sustainability data and reporting activities, supports climate and other sustainability initiatives, and identifies opportunities to improve sustainability performance and reduce business risk. The position works closely with internal business functions and external partners to implement programs, maintain reliable data, and support regulatory, voluntary, and stakeholder sustainability reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

- Manage and implement corporate sustainability programs related to climate and energy, water conservation, waste reduction, packaging and product stewardship, circularity, responsible sourcing, and other sustainability priorities.

- Support the development and implementation of sustainability strategies, goals, and initiatives through benchmarking, performance analysis, and identification of practical business solutions; research emerging technologies, materials, and practices and provide recommendations for potential application to products, facilities, supply chain, or operations.

- Coordinate the collection, validation, analysis, and reporting of sustainability data and support regulatory and voluntary sustainability disclosures, including greenhouse gas emissions, energy, water, waste, packaging, and other key performance indicators; maintain processes, documentation, and controls that support data integrity, consistency, and auditability.

- Manage components of the Company’s greenhouse gas inventory and climate-related programs, including Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions measurement, reporting, data quality, and reduction opportunities.

- Monitor emerging sustainability-related regulations, reporting requirements, industry practices, trends, and stakeholder expectations; assess potential business impacts, risks, and opportunities and recommend appropriate actions

- Collaborate with internal business partners, suppliers, consultants, and service providers to implement sustainability programs, advance supplier sustainability initiatives, integratesustainability considerations into business processes, and resolve program issues.

- Develop metrics, dashboards, benchmarking, and business analyses to measure sustainability performance, identify opportunities, track progress, and recommend solutions that balance sustainability objectives with operational feasibility and business value.

- Lead sustainability projects and manage consultants, vendors, and other external partners to ensure projects meet established objectives, schedules, budgets, and performance expectations; prepare presentations, reports, procedures, training materials, and communications for internal and external audiences.

- Represent Tractor Supply Company in selected industry meetings, stakeholder calls, and conferences and support sustainability-related investor and stakeholder inquiries, benchmarking, regulatory awareness, industry engagement, and information exchange.

- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Company’s sustainability objectives.

Required Qualifications

Experience: 7+ years of corporate sustainability, ESG, sustainability reporting, climate, energy, circularity or related experience, preferably within retail, distribution, or a multi-site organization. Working knowledge of sustainability-related laws, regulations, reporting requirements, and practices is required. Experience managing multiple sustainability programs and coordinating across business functions is preferred.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, EHS, Engineering, Business, Natural Resources, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities

- Working knowledge of sustainability-related laws, climate-related protocols, reporting requirements, and sustainability practices.

- Experience managing multiple sustainability programs across multiple retail locations and demonstrated ability to manage priorities, deadlines, vendors and data sets.

- Strong project management, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to interpret regulatory, reporting, and technical requirements and translate them into practical business processes.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical topics to non-technical audiences.

- Ability to collaborate with and influence stakeholders across functions without direct authority and build alignment around program objectives.

- Ability to work varied hours as business needs dictate.
