Technical Editor

Leidos is seeking an entry level Technical Editor to support environmental investigation, remediation, and restoration programs for government clients. The Technical Editor will work with environmental scientists, engineers, geologists, project managers, technical specialists, and other project personnel to develop high-quality technical documents and deliverables.

The successful candidate will review, edit, format, and perform quality control of complex technical documents to ensure they are clear, accurate, consistent, well organized, and compliant with client, regulatory, contractual, and company requirements.

Primary Responsibilities

- Review documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, readability, consistency, organization, and appropriate technical terminology while maintaining the technical intent and accuracy of material prepared by subject matter experts.
- Perform quality reviews of complex technical documents to ensure consistency among narrative text, tables, figures, appendices, references, acronyms, terminology, units of measure, figure and table numbering, and supporting data.
- Perform document-level QA/QC to identify inconsistencies, missing information, conflicting information, formatting issues, and other potential errors prior to client submission.
- Apply established client and project style guides, templates, formatting standards, and document control requirements. Coordinate with technical personnel to ensure figures and other supporting materials are appropriately incorporated into final deliverables.
- Support electronic document production, compilation, and delivery in accordance with project and client requirements.
- Manage multiple documents and priorities while meeting established project schedules and submission deadlines.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in English, technical communication, communication, journalism, or a related discipline.
- Strong command of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, and professional writing conventions.
- Ability to edit complex technical material for clarity and consistency without altering technical meaning, with a willingness to develop these skills through structured on-the-job training.
- Working proficiency with Microsoft Word, including use of track changes, search capabilities, tables, cross-references, and document navigation, with a willingness to develop these skills with structured, on-the-job training
- Working proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical, repeatable approach to QC..
- Willingness to develop the ability to manage multiple assignments, contributors, review cycles, and deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively with technical professionals and communicate editorial recommendations diplomatically and clearly.
- Willingness to learn and consistently apply established project procedures and document control practices.
- Ability to meet applicable government client and site access requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s degree in English, technical communication, communication, journalism, or a related discipline.
- Experience working with large, complex technical reports containing multiple authors, sections, tables, figures, appendices, and supporting references.
- Experience with SharePoint or other electronic document management and collaboration systems.
- Familiarity with environmental investigation and remediation terminology, including soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, waste characterization, risk assessment, and remedial technologies.
- Familiarity with environmental regulatory programs such as RCRA, CERCLA, or NEPA.
- Advanced Microsoft Word skills, including styles, templates, section numbering and formatting, automated cross references, captions, and creating/updating tables of contents.
- Academic coursework, internship, practicum, or student publication experience involving environmental, scientific, or engineering subject matter.

Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation; due to contract requirements, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent residency is required.

## Pay Range:
Pay Range $45,500.00 - $82,250.00
