Supervisor, Rail

Position Summary

We are looking for a Rail Supervisor to join our team and oversee the day-to-day operations of automotive rail loading and unloading. Reporting directly to the Senior Yard Manager, this role plays an important part in ensuring that our operations are safe, efficient, and consistently meet quality standards.

The Rail Supervisor will work closely with rail crews, management, customers, and other team members to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and according to company, AAR, and manufacturer requirements.

This position will also support areas such as quality, safety, damage and loss prevention, claims, document control, and personnel matters . At times, the Rail Supervisor may also assume responsibilities normally handled by the Senior Yard Manager.

This position is 1st shift located in Cotulla Texas

What You'll Do

- Oversee daily automotive rail loading and unloading operations, including proper vehicle securement in railcars.

- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, AAR requirements, and manufacturer standards.

- Communicate daily work assignments and expectations to rail crews.

- Conduct on-rail inspections and daily quality audits.

- Monitor work quality and identify opportunities to prevent loss and damage.

- Perform equipment assignments and inspections.

- Complete and maintain daily operational reports and documentation.

- Manage load makeup activities.

- Address personnel matters and support a positive, productive work environment.

- Participate in customer meetings and conference calls.

- Understand customer requirements and work to consistently meet or exceed expectations.

- Present damage-prevention initiatives and process improvements when needed.

- Identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement and make recommendations to improve overall operations.

- Provide support to the Senior Yard Manager and assume additional responsibilities as needed.

What We're Looking For

Education & Experience

- Bachelor's degree or approximately 4 years of management experience.

- Previous experience as a successful Team Leader, Supervisor, or equivalent leadership role.

- Experience managing processes and working with external customer requirements.

- Experience in a supervisory or management environment.

- General knowledge of railroad operations is preferred.

Physical demands and work environment

The physical and mental demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

On the job the employee must:

- Have natural or corrected eyesight capable of conducting inspections in varying levels of light.

- Have normal range of hearing, or corrected hearing, to be able to respond to normal workplace sounds including approaching vehicles.

This position requires the following physical demands:

- Lifting to 25 lbs.1-3 hrs. Throughout the day

- Standing 6-8 hours/day

- Walking, 6-8 hrs./day

- Reach above shoulder level 1-3 hrs./day.

- Bend, Stoop, Squat, and or twist-Repeatedly throughout day.

Environmental

- May be exposed to excessive noise depending on job location and operations in progress.

- Will be working around moving machinery and equipment daily.

- May be exposed to marked changes in temperature and /or humidity.

- May be exposed to dust, fumes, gases, radiation, chemical depending on the work location,

- Potentially walks on uneven ground.

- May be required to drive motorized equipment such as golf carts depending on the work location.

- May be required to operate a shuttle van in Releasing Yards
