About this role
The Receiving Inspector is responsible for inspecting incoming materials, components, and subassemblies to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, quality requirements, and applicable procedures. This role serves as a key quality control point within the medical device manufacturing process to ensure only conforming materials are released for production use.
The ideal candidate possesses strong technical inspection skills, extensive experience interpreting engineering drawings and specifications, proficiency with precision measurement equipment, and an uncompromising commitment to quality. Successful candidates are detail-oriented, procedure-driven, and confident in identifying, documenting, and escalating potential quality concerns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform incoming inspection activities in accordance with approved procedures, specifications, drawings, and inspection plans.
- Interpret engineering drawings, geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T), material specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
- Verify dimensional, visual, labeling, and documentation requirements for incoming materials and components.
- Utilize precision measuring equipment including but not limited to calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, and pin gauges.
- Accurately record inspection results and complete the required quality records in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
- Review supplier documentation including Certificates of Conformance (CoC), test reports, and inspection records.
- Identify and segregate non-conforming materials.
- Initiate and support nonconformance events (NCEs) when required.
- Support nonconformance investigations when required.
- Maintain compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel to complete inspection records.
- Communicate with internal customers to resolve inspection discrepancies.
- Ensure daily inspection priorities are met.
- Perform first article inspections.
- Complete all training requirements in a timely manner.
- Ability to adhere to standardized production schedule and work overtime to support production needs as necessary.
- Act as an advocate for compliance, data integrity, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
Education
- Highschool diploma or equivalent required.
- Preferred Minimum Non-Technical Degree: High School (H.S./GED) or Associate Degree
Experience
- Preferred Minimum Non-Technical Degree: 1-2 Years
- Preferred 1-2 years’ experience in medical device manufacturing or other highly regulated manufacturing industry.
- Experience with Oracle ERP or Agile Product Lifecycle Management System is beneficial.
- ASQ Certified Quality Inspector is beneficial.
Skills
- Strong understanding and working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Work, SharePoint and OneDrive.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow all written procedures.
- Strong effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.\
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation practices.
- Ability to use quality control tools such as calipers, micrometers, scales, gauges, microscopes, etc.
- Advanced ability to read and interpret basic schematics, blueprints, part lists and other technical data.
- Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and GDP (Good Documentation Practices) is beneficial.
The annualized base salary range for this role is $45,400 - $68,100 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, education, business needs and market demand.
