About the Role

The Scale Up, Tech Transfer, and Pilot Plant Team is a global platform team responsible for scaling up manufacturing processes, identifying and mitigating technical risks, and supporting innovation projects that bring new products to consumers around the world. The pilot plant serves as a critical bridge between product development and full-scale manufacturing, where new products, processes, and equipment are tested before commercial launch.

As a Pilot Plant Engineering Co-op, you will gain hands-on experience supporting pilot plant operations and engineering projects. Working alongside engineers, operators, and cross-functional partners, you will contribute to equipment commissioning, qualification, troubleshooting, documentation, and process improvement activities. This role offers a unique opportunity to see how new products move from development into manufacturing while gaining real-world experience in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Support equipment commissioning, qualification, validation, and troubleshooting activities within the pilot plant.

- Assist with technical documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), risk assessments, qualification protocols, and project reports.

- Participate in pilot plant manufacturing activities, data collection, and continuous improvement initiatives.

- Collaborate with engineers, operators, product development teams, quality partners, and external vendors to support project objectives.

Essential Qualifications

- Currently pursuing an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field.

- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

- Interest in manufacturing, engineering operations, equipment, or process development.

- Effective communication and collaboration skills.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

- Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and a willingness to learn in a hands-on environment.

Preferred Qualifications

- Exposure to manufacturing, laboratory, pilot plant, or engineering environments through coursework, projects, internships, or co-op experience.

- Familiarity with equipment operation, troubleshooting, technical documentation, or process improvement activities.

Eligibility and Program Requirements:

- This internship requires working at the designated location. Candidates requiring relocation are responsible for arranging and funding their own housing, transportation, and relocation needs.

- Candidate must be able to work full-time (40 hours/ week) Monday-Friday ~8am-5pm for 6 months.

- Candidate must be authorized to work in the United States and will not require sponsorship in the future. Work authorization documentation will be required during the application process.

- The position is based in Richmond, requiring an in-office presence of 5 days per week

Compensation for this internship is based on academic standing and degree program:

- Freshman: $20.00/hour

- Sophomore: $22.50/hour

- Junior: $24.50/hour

- Senior: $26.00/hour

- Master's Student (Non-Engineering): $28.00/hour

- Master's Student (Engineering): $30.00/hour

Expected start date: January 2027, possible 6 month extension
