Research Fellow - PhD

The Acharya laboratory at Seattle Children’s Research Institute ( www.seattlechildrens.org/directory/mridu-acharya )  is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to investigate how signaling and intracellular trafficking mechanisms within B cells shape immune responses in infection and autoimmunity. A primary focus of this position will be examining the generation, localization, and function of lung-resident germinal-center and memory B cell responses following influenza infection in mice. The candidate will also have opportunities to investigate how mouse and human B cells process and present different classes of antigens to T cells, using cell-culture and microscopy-based approaches. Together, these projects provide an opportunity to connect the cellular mechanisms operating within B cells with their effects on tissue-level immune responses. Experience in using microscopy to study intracellular localization of proteins or using biochemical approaches to study cell biology would be highly preferred.

The successful candidate will work closely with the principal investigator to develop research questions, design and perform experiments, and prepare findings for publication and presentation. The laboratory provides a collaborative and supportive training environment to develop expertise in mucosal immunology, B cell biology, respiratory infection, antigen presentation, and cellular imaging.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Design and perform experiments investigating lung-resident B cell responses following influenza infection in mice.
- Analyze immune-cell populations from lung and lymphoid tissues using multiparameter flow cytometry.
- Evaluate antigen-specific B-cell and antibody responses.
- Contribute to studies of antigen processing, intracellular antigen trafficking, and B cell antigen presentation.
- Analyze data and contribute to presentations, manuscripts, and research proposals.
- Participate in the maintenance and experimental use of mouse colonies relevant to the research program.

Required Education and Experience
Doctorate degree (PhD/DVM/MD) in specialty area from an accredited university training program.
Experience using basic research techniques of specialty area.

Preferred

- Research experience in immunology, infectious disease, B cell biology, or a related area.
- Experience with flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture, or mouse models.
- Ability to design experiments, analyze data critically, and communicate findings clearly.
- PhD in immunology, microbiology, cell biology, or a related discipline.

Compensation Range

$80,172 per year

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
