About Design Technology at DLR Group

DLR Group’s Design Technology team advances the digital practice of design across our integrated architecture, engineering, and interiors teams. The team supports and develops the technologies, standards, workflows, and tools that enable our designers to work more effectively and solve increasingly complex challenges.

Our multidisciplinary team brings together expertise in digital practice, research and development, and client-facing digital services, with capabilities spanning BIM, computational design, reality capture, GIS, automation, artificial intelligence and machine learning, digital review, connected BIM, and design visualization.

Position Summary

As a Computational Design Developer at DLR Group, you will create custom digital tools and software solutions that advance the way our integrated design teams work. You will develop prototypes, applications, and computational design workflows that support architects, engineers, and designers across the firm. This role is ideal for a creative technologist who enjoys solving complex design problems through code, exploring emerging technologies, and helping shape the future of digital design practice.

What You Will Do

- Collaborate with the Design Technology team to develop and implement computational design tools for use across DLR Group’s integrated design practice

- Build internal applications and client-facing digital solutions that enhance design, review, and project workflows

- Develop interactive experiences, gaming objects, and user interfaces within Unreal Engine

- Create prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions to support research and development initiatives

- Translate designer and stakeholder feedback into thoughtful, scalable software solutions

- Contribute to the development of digital pipelines connecting primary design applications and emerging technologies

- Write, document, test, and maintain code within a collaborative development environment

- Participate in code reviews and contribute to shared repositories, standards, and development practices

- Explore emerging technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities for new tools, workflows, and design capabilities

- Partner with Design Technology leadership and multidisciplinary teams to advance the firm’s digital design strategy

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, computer science, computational design, or a related field

- Experience writing, documenting, and maintaining code in a collaborative development environment

- Experience working with GitHub or similar version control platforms

- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

- Ability to translate design or business needs into functional software solutions

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet project deadlines

- Collaborative mindset with openness to feedback, iteration, and continuous improvement

- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and design teams

- Must be eligible to work in the United States without need for work visa or residency sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience developing applications or digital tools for architecture, engineering, construction, or design workflows

- Knowledge of C++ and Unreal Engine Blueprints

- Experience developing interactive tools, user interfaces, or gaming environments in Unreal Engine

- Familiarity with virtual reality, augmented reality, extended reality, or immersive technologies

- Understanding of game development pipelines and workflows

- Experience with graphics programming, shaders, or real-time rendering technologies

- Familiarity with AEC 3D modeling and design applications

- Experience developing tools or applications across multiple devices or platforms

- Creative problem-solving mindset with a passion for enabling designers through technology

The suggested pay range for this position is:
Pay Range $85,000 — $100,000 USD
