OVERVIEW OF ROLE
Under the supervision of the Engineering Supervisor, the Senior Engineering Technician will provide a consistent and reliable environment in all museum buildings by utilizing the Museums building automation system to maintain the environmental conditions that best preserve the works of art. This position will require a trained and experienced hands-on HVAC mechanic that has the skills to troubleshoot, repair, preventatively maintain and install a variety of HVAC equipment. An understanding of the interaction of the museum mechanical systems and their effect on the museum environment as a whole is essential.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and maintain the proper environment for the preservation of art.
- Monitor the temperature and humidity levels throughout the museum daily by utilizing the buildings automation system.
- Promptly address alarm conditions as reported by the building automation system.
- Maintain proper operation of facility mechanical systems.
- Complete scheduled preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Troubleshoot and repair any malfunctioning equipment.
- Provides recommendations to the Engineering Supervisor regarding capital improvements.
- Completes weekly preventative maintenance tasks via the CMMS.
- Maintains the automation database as assigned.
- Manage resources, including external vendors and contractors
- Order parts and necessary preventative maintenance materials as needed.
- Gather quotes from contractors and provide recommendations to the Engineering Supervisor.
- Coordinate and schedule contractor work.
- Create and closes work orders in the absence of the Engineering Supervisor.
- Assist other museum staff as required.
- Maintain the overall cleanliness, condition, and safety of all mechanical areas.
- Provide 24-hour on-call coverage as assigned.
- Assist with snow removal and emergency calls.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in operation and repair of low-pressure steam boiler controls and commercial HVAC equipment.
- Knowledge of building automation systems, preferably Metasys.
- Strong understanding of wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Training and knowledge of the operation and controls of low-pressure steam vessels.
- Knowledge of air movement systems and their components, including but not limited to commercial air handling units, variable air volume boxes, reheating coils, variable frequency drive fan motors and controls, and humidification equipment.
- Knowledge of humidification equipment and the relationship between temperature and humidity.
- Skilled in the proper use of hand and power tools and test instruments, including but not limited to combustion analyzers and a multimeter to properly diagnose equipment failures.
- Basic electrical knowledge preferred.
- Proficiency with digital administrative and communication platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Ability to move, carry, climb, and work from ladders.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in conditions including but not limited to hot and humid environments, such as a boiler room; various climate conditions found outdoors; performing tasks from various heights.
SCHEDULED SHIFT
Job Type: Monday – Friday. Must be available 24/7, on an as-need basis as well as on-call status as deemed necessary for museum operations and emergencies.
ANNUAL SALARY: $69,019
