The Role

As a Certified Surgical Technologist in Labor & Delivery at UVA Health, you will:

- Prepare surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment for cesarean sections and other obstetric procedures
- Establish and maintain a sterile field while demonstrating strong aseptic technique
- Anticipate the needs of obstetric providers and the multidisciplinary care team during surgical deliveries
- Support safe, efficient workflows in both scheduled and emergent maternal care situations
- Assist with the care of mother and infant during operative deliveries
- Contribute to a collaborative, patient-centered Labor & Delivery environment focused on exceptional outcomes for families

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Currently enrolled or graduated from a surgical technologist training program accredited by CAHEEP/ABHES OR NCCT Approved program.

Experience: No experience required.

Licensure: BLS required. Certified to practice as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA (The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) or NCCT (The National Center for Competency Testing) required at time of start date. Current Registration with Virginia Board of Medicine required at the time of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods; Repetitive motion: passing instruments, lifting heavy instrument sets.  Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull >50 - 100lbs.   May be exposed to cold, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
