Brainbay is a data-driven technology company operating at the heart of the Dutch real estate sector. We transform vast amounts of real estate data into valuable products—and behind every one of those products is a talented team of software and data engineers. As brainbay continues its journey from start-up to a more mature organisation, we’ve opened the new position of Head of Engineering. We are looking for an experienced software development leader who understands modern engineering practices. You will also help develop and implement our vision for engineering in the age of Generative AI, supporting our engineers in adopting these technologies effectively and developing the skills they need for the future.

Your role as head of engineering

You will lead an international team of around 20 data, front-end and back-end engineers, with a strong focus on their wellbeing, professional development and effective deployment. Brainbay has adopted an agile way of working, using Scrum as its primary framework. The team of engineers work across several multidisciplinary Scrum teams, collaborating closely with other disciplines to develop and improve our products. Reporting to the CTO, and part of brainbay’s management team, this role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, ensuring engineers are supported, aligned, and effective.

Key responsibilities:

- Lead, mentor, and develop data, front-end and back-end engineers through regular feedback, coaching, performance management, and career development.
- Provide technical leadership to set and maintain engineering standards, including the shared context and guardrails for the use of Generative AI across the different teams.
- Foster a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, constructive feedback, and knowledge sharing across the Scrum teams.
- Support hiring and onboarding to help grow an international, diverse engineering team.
- Partner with the CTO, members of the management team, and other stakeholders to shape technical direction, including engineering practices, information security and architecture.

Requirements

Your profile

The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader. With a strong, full-stack background you combine technical credibility with strong people leadership. As this is a new role within Brainbay - an environment in which engineering craftsmanship is highly valued -, you are comfortable shaping the position and fostering. Your leadership style is practical and collaborative, and willing to contribute directly when needed. In addition:

- At least BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field or study or equivalent practical experience;
- Strong leadership, coordination, and stakeholder management skills;
- Good understanding of agile principles;
- Experience in at least one of the following areas: Information Security, (Solution) Architecture and use of Generative AI in SDLC;
- Fluent in Dutch and English;
- At the time of applying, you reside in the Netherlands.

Our offer

- Start salary range € 5.235 - € 7.478,- monthly, depending on skills and experience;
- 8,25% holiday allowance;
- 13th-month bonus;
- 37 vacation days per year;
- Zwitserleven pension plan with 4% employee and 8% employer contribution;
- Travel allowance (€0.25 per km) or 100% reimbursed via NS Business Card;
- Hybrid working with a €2.45 daily allowance for home working days;
- €1.500 annual training budget for growth opportunities.
