Optical Engineer (m/f/d)

A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As an R&D Engineer Laser and Optics (m/f/d) , you will be part of our photonics team in the high-power laser division at our Rankweil location. You will be part of an international team of experienced development engineers working on the product development of ultrafast pulsed lasers. Your area of responsibility will be in the field of system engineering, where—after an initial onboarding phase—you will work closely with the reliability engineering and product marketing team.

You Will Make an Impact By:

- Execute experiments to test conceptual designs and to document optical system performance. Use software computational tools to aid in the design and analysis of optical system performance.  Work with reliability, mechanical and electrical engineers to assist in evaluating and documenting opto-mechanical and electro-optical specifications
- Define test strategies, build, test and document system prototypes:  measure optical and opto-electronic parameters and evaluate results, create test reports and generate design documentation including optical diagrams, drawings, and optical components specifications
- Analysis, documentation, and evaluation of experimental results
- Work in a multi-disciplinary team and interact with Electrical, Mechanical, Software and Manufacturing Engineers on new product development and to transfer the design to production
- Guide and train technicians on newly developed processes and optical measurement techniques

Skills You Bring:

- Master degree in Engineering, Mechatronic, Physics or a related field required and 3+ years industry experience
- Willingness to learn and openness to change
- Independent, analytical, and result-oriented work approach
- Proven ability to independently define opto-electronic measurement procedures, set up and perform the measurements, evaluate the results and clearly communicate the conclusions to peer engineers and management
- Proven experience with optical measurement instruments: beam parameters analyzers, power meters, auto-correlators, fast opto-electronics, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and spectrometers, scanning interferometers
- Interdisciplinary thinking and enjoyment of innovative solutions
- Ideally, practical experience and knowledge in ultrafast pulse laser research and development
- Initial methodological competence in project management
- Fluent English language skills
