Job Description

The Power BI and Microsoft Fabric Engineer is a hands-on technical role responsible for Power BI development, administration, platform support, performance optimization, governance, and Microsoft Fabric enablement. The role supports enterprise reporting and data-platform operations, troubleshoots complex technical issues, establishes platform standards, and collaborates with technical teams and business stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and supportable Power BI and Fabric solutions

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, enhance, troubleshoot, and optimize Power BI reports, semantic models, Dataflows, and Paginated Reports.
- Design and support solutions using DAX, Power Query/M, data modeling, Import, DirectQuery, and Composite Models.
- Analyze and resolve performance issues involving reports, visuals, DAX, semantic models, refreshes, data sources, and capacity utilization.
- Use Performance Analyzer, DAX Studio, and Tabular Editor to assess and improve solution performance.
- Administer and support the enterprise Power BI Service, including workspaces, apps, semantic models, dataflows, gateways, refreshes, security, and access.
- Monitor Power BI Premium and Microsoft Fabric capacity utilization, workload performance, and operational health.
- Troubleshoot gateway, connectivity, refresh, capacity, deployment, and service-related issues.
- Support Power BI REST APIs, deployment processes, automation, and operational improvements.
- Provide technical guidance, design recommendations, and code or model reviews to Power BI developers.
- Support Power BI governance, access controls, compliance, audit, risk-management, and technical-review activities.
- Establish and maintain standards for workspace design, security, naming, content lifecycle, access, capacity usage, and certified or promoted content.
- Identify technical risks, governance gaps, and technical debt, and recommend appropriate remediation.
- Maintain platform documentation, operational standards, runbooks, and knowledge articles.
- Support Microsoft Fabric architecture and workloads, including OneLake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory/Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks, Semantic Models, Fabric Capacity, and Monitoring Hub.
- Support Microsoft Fabric readiness, onboarding, migration, architecture, security, monitoring, and production implementation.
- Establish sustainable support and operating processes for Microsoft Fabric as organizational adoption increases.
- Provide L2/L3 production support and own incidents from investigation through resolution, including root-cause analysis for recurring issues.
- Coordinate with database, cloud, network, security, infrastructure, Microsoft, and vendor-support teams to resolve platform issues.
- Communicate incidents, risks, dependencies, and technical recommendations clearly to technical teams, business users, and other stakeholders.
- Promote Power BI and Microsoft Fabric best practices, supportability, documentation, and knowledge sharing.

Experience and Qualifications

- Seven or more years of experience in Power BI, data analytics, or data-platform engineering.
- Proven experience in Power BI administration, development, troubleshooting, and production support.
- Strong experience in report and semantic-model performance optimization.
- Hands-on experience with Paginated Reports, Dataflows, and enterprise gateways.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric architecture and platform workloads.
- Experience with enterprise governance, access management, risk, compliance, or similar platform controls.
- Experience working within a structured production-support or IT service-management environment is preferred.

In-Office Collaboration

- We are a client-centric, relationship-based business. Working together, in-person, is foundational to how we achieve results. Our employees work in the office at least three (3) days per week, with flexibility to work from home two (2) days per week. Some roles may require additional in-office time or different in-office expectations, and specific requirements will be discussed during the hiring process.
