Senior Cybersecurity Engineer (Cloud Security Engineer - 3P)
Role Overview
Providence is seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Security Engineer to lead the design, implementation, governance, and continuous improvement of cloud security capabilities across Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
This role serves as a technical subject matter expert (SME) responsible for driving cloud security strategy, establishing enterprise security guardrails, strengthening cloud security posture, and embedding security into cloud-native platforms and engineering practices. The engineer will partner closely with Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Infrastructure, IAM, and Application teams to secure cloud environments while enabling scalable and compliant business operations.
The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on technical expertise in Azure security, cloud governance, CSPM, DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and enterprise security architecture with the ability to influence security outcomes across large-scale cloud transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead cloud security architecture, governance, and transformation initiatives across Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
- Design and implement secure cloud architectures aligned with Zero Trust principles, security best practices, and enterprise security standards.
- Develop, implement, and maintain cloud security guardrails using Azure Policy, security baselines, and cloud governance frameworks.
- Drive Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) initiatives through platforms such as Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Wiz, Prisma Cloud, or equivalent technologies.
- Establish and enforce cloud security controls across compute, storage, networking, identity, platform services, containers, and Kubernetes environments.
- Partner with Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure, DevOps, and Application teams to integrate security controls throughout cloud platform design and deployment.
- Implement and support Infrastructure as Code (IaC) security practices using Terraform and cloud automation technologies.
- Lead cloud risk assessments, security reviews, threat modeling exercises, and cloud security architecture evaluations.
- Develop security standards, reference architectures, implementation patterns, and operational procedures for cloud environments.
- Monitor, assess, and improve cloud security posture through continuous security assessments, remediation tracking, and governance reviews.
- Drive cloud identity and access management best practices, including RBAC, Entra ID, Conditional Access, and privileged access controls.
- Support regulatory, risk management, audit, and compliance initiatives by providing cloud security evidence, documentation, and risk mitigation recommendations.
- Collaborate with Security Operations, Incident Response, Vulnerability Management, and Engineering teams to mitigate cloud-related risks and security threats.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on cloud security technologies, governance practices, and secure cloud adoption strategies.

Required Skills & Experience
- 6-9+ years of experience in Cybersecurity Engineering, Cloud Security, Security Architecture, or related enterprise security roles.
- Strong hands-on expertise in Microsoft Azure security, cloud architecture, cloud-native services, and enterprise cloud governance.
- Deep experience with Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) tools such as Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Wiz, Prisma Cloud, Lacework, or equivalent platforms.
- Strong knowledge of Azure Policy, RBAC, Entra ID, Conditional Access, Defender for Cloud, Azure Landing Zones, and security governance frameworks.
- Experience securing Azure workloads, virtual networks, containers, Kubernetes platforms, storage services, platform services, and cloud-native applications.
- Hands-on experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and security automation using Terraform and related cloud-native automation tools.
- Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles, CI/CD security controls, infrastructure security, and secure application deployment practices.
- Experience designing and implementing cloud security controls aligned with Zero Trust architectures and enterprise security strategies.
- Strong understanding of cloud threat models, cloud attack vectors, security monitoring, detection, and risk management principles.
- Proven ability to lead cloud security programs, influence stakeholders, and drive security outcomes across enterprise environments.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, documentation, stakeholder management, and technical leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications
- Azure security certifications such as Azure Security Engineer Associate (AZ-500), Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or equivalent certifications.
- CISSP, CCSP, CCSK, or other industry-recognized cloud security certifications.
- Experience implementing Microsoft security solutions including Defender Suite, Sentinel, Purview, and Entra security capabilities.
- Experience working within healthcare, financial services, or highly regulated enterprise environments.
- Strong knowledge of Kubernetes security, container security, and cloud-native application protection platforms (CNAPP).
- Experience with cloud compliance frameworks such as NIST, CIS Benchmarks, ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA, or PCI-DSS.
- Experience integrating cloud security telemetry into SIEM, SOAR, vulnerability management, and security operations platforms.
- Knowledge of scripting or automation using PowerShell, Python, Terraform, or cloud-native automation frameworks.

- Lead cloud security governance reviews, architecture discussions, and security transformation initiatives across Azure environments.
- Review cloud security posture dashboards, security findings, compliance gaps, and remediation activities using CSPM platforms.
- Collaborate with Cloud Engineering, DevOps, IAM, Infrastructure, and Application teams to implement secure cloud solutions.
- Design and validate Azure security controls, policies, identity protections, and cloud governance standards.
- Participate in cloud architecture reviews, threat modeling exercises, security assessments, and solution design discussions.
- Implement and enhance Infrastructure as Code (IaC) security controls, cloud automation, and DevSecOps practices.
- Support security incident investigations, vulnerability remediation efforts, and cloud risk reduction initiatives.
- Develop and maintain cloud security standards, reference architectures, operational procedures, and governance documentation.
- Mentor team members and serve as a technical escalation point for complex cloud security architecture and governance challenges.
- Drive continuous improvement of cloud security posture, compliance alignment, automation capabilities, and enterprise cloud security maturity.
