Legal Lead Patient Solutions - Legal Counsel Position

We are looking for a Legal Lead Patient Solutions - Legal Counsel Position who is pragmatic, collaborative and solutions-oriented to join us in our Ethics and Legal Affairs team, based in our HQ office in Brussels, Belgium.

About the role

In this global role, you will provide legal support to Patient Solutions, with a primary focus on its daily operations. You will offer practical, risk-based and business-oriented counsel on contracts and selected regulated activities. Working closely with legal colleagues and cross-functional partners, you will help identify and manage legal, technical and commercial risks while supporting initiatives that create value for the business and patients.

Who you’ll work with

You will be working in a team that supports Patient Solutions, Patient Supply and Global Quality. You will collaborate with other lawyers handling Patient Solutions matters, patent attorneys, scientists and colleagues in Contracts and Outsourcing Management, Scouting and Partnering, and Alliance Management. Your stakeholders will be located across hubs and sites in Belgium, the United Kingdom and the United States. You will also work with lawyers supporting Patient Supply and colleagues across Ethics and Legal Affairs.

What you’ll do

- Draft, review and negotiate agreements with universities, hospitals, research institutions and companies, including confidentiality, consultancy, studentship, services, material transfer and research collaboration agreements.
- Provide pragmatic, agile, risk-based and business-oriented legal advice on contractual matters and selected regulated activities.
- Advise on matters involving human biological samples, data privacy and artificial intelligence-related issues.
- Identify and assess legal, technical and commercial risks, translating complex legal concepts into clear and practical guidance.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with patent attorneys, scientists and colleagues supporting contracting, partnering and alliance activities.
- Support legal operations and company initiatives, including contract templates, efficiency improvements, training, digital initiatives and intra-group matters.
- Contribute to regular team meetings and provide broader legal support relevant to Patient Solutions and the company.

Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills

- A master’s degree in law and qualification to practise law.
- At least three years of professional experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel within a multinational company, preferably in the biopharmaceutical sector.
- Experience drafting and negotiating contracts, providing related advice and identifying legal, technical and commercial risks.
- Experience licensing intellectual property rights, preferably through pharmaceutical or life sciences agreements.
- Project management skills and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts in clear, accessible language.
- A collaborative and dynamic approach, combined with creative problem-solving, critical thinking and sound risk assessment.
- A growth mindset and commitment to continuous change and improvement, with a clear focus on value for the business and patients.
