## Job Description Summary:
The Grant Manager is responsible for the lifecycle management of research projects and all administrative functions associated with sponsored project management. This position works closely with faculty, departmental staff, Sponsored Programs Administration, and external sponsors to ensure compliance with sponsor application requirements, technical specifications, and deadlines. The Grant Manager is responsible for managing aspects of the pre-award process including the development of sponsored programs grant applications, tracking of applications, coordinating Just-in-Time submissions, and identifying potential funding opportunities for KUMC research faculty. Additionally, the Grant Manager is responsible for supporting department administrators with post award management.  This includes financial monitoring and reporting for each award while maintaining compliance of sponsor, KUMC, and the State of Kansas guidelines.  This position is responsible for coordinating effort certification for faculty with federal funding and for tracking cost share commitments. Both are complex and require knowledge of internal and external policies and compliance requirements for federal funding. The manager is also responsible for assisting faculty with progress reports for awarded grants.

Job Responsibilities:

- Manage pre-award activities, including grant application development, tracking, pre-review, Just-in-Time submissions, and funding opportunity identification.
- Work with faculty, departmental staff, Sponsored Programs Administration, and external sponsors on application requirements, compliance, specifications, and deadlines.
- Research, interpret, and communicate sponsor and University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) requirements to research faculty.
- Coordinate faculty effort certification, payroll confirmation, and costing allocations for federally funded awards.
- Track committed cost share and maintain related information in institutional systems.
- Coordinate grant reports and deliverables, including progress reports and Research Performance Progress Reports.
- Support post-award administration, including budgeting, staffing, effort allocation, reporting, and sponsor requirements.
- Coordinate financial conflict of interest and related training requirements.
- Assist with proposal submissions, Just-in-Time requests, no-cost extensions, cost-share memos, Other Support documentation, award modifications, and close-out reports.
- Edit and format grant documents, reports, tables, figures, and graphics.
- Review sponsored project proposals for completeness and compliance and facilitate review of final submission documents with faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.
- Reconcile grant expenditures and conduct compliance reviews of sponsor and institutional requirements.
- Maintain submission logs, reports, records, databases, and resource materials.
- Assist with NIH Public Access Policy compliance, NIHMS manuscript deposits, and MyNCBI publication maintenance.
- Route award modifications requiring institutional or sponsor approval.
- Recommend and implement improvements to award management processes.

Required Qualifications

Work Experience:

- Four years of experience in business, accounting, social sciences, health services, or administration. Relevant education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Four years of experience in grant and sponsored project administration, financial or budget management, or regulatory compliance.
- Experience with NIH and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

- Master's degree in a relevant field such as finance, business administration, management, or life sciences.

Work Experience:

- Experience analyzing and interpreting complex grant proposal requirements.
- Experience with eRA Commons and Cayuse web applications.
- Experience with electronic and paper submission requirements.
- Experience with sponsored project proposals and financial management.
- Relevant experience in an academic setting.
- Experience applying Uniform Guidance and federal guidelines.
- Experience with grant preparation, coordination, and implementation.
- Experience the research revenue cycle process.
- Experience applying institutional policies and procedures regarding external funding.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
