FSQA Supervisor

Job Title: FSQA Supervisor Job Description The FSQA Supervisor oversees laboratory and auditing activities within a food industry environment, ensuring consistent quality, regulatory compliance, and support for research and development initiatives. This role provides day-to-day leadership to lab technicians, manages internal and external audits, and maintains robust documentation processes while contributing to the development of new vendor streams and feed-related R&D projects. Responsibilities

- Supervise and mentor two laboratory technicians, providing clear direction, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Oversee laboratory operations and ensure that testing, sampling, and quality checks follow established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and support internal audits, including preparation, execution, documentation, and follow-up on corrective and preventive actions.
- Manage and maintain quality assurance documentation, including records, reports, and audit files, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and regulatory readiness.
- Coordinate and support waste water regulatory audits, including preparation of documentation, interaction with auditors, and implementation of any required improvements.
- Collaborate with research and development teams on feed-related projects, contributing quality and compliance expertise to new formulations and processes.
- Support R&D efforts on new vendor streams by evaluating quality standards, audit findings, and compliance requirements for potential suppliers.
- Ensure quality compliance across processes and products, identifying nonconformances and driving timely corrective actions.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to maintain and improve food safety, quality systems, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, adjusting to changing priorities and operational needs.
- Communicate findings, issues, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders through reports, meetings, and regular updates.
- Promote a culture of quality, food safety, and accountability within the lab and across the broader operation.

Essential Skills

- Proven experience in internal auditing within a food industry environment.
- Hands-on quality assurance and laboratory experience, including familiarity with lab processes and documentation.
- Demonstrated lead or supervisor experience overseeing staff or technical teams.
- Experiene in the food industry, with understanding of food safety and quality standards.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, taking ownership of tasks and decisions.
- Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to think quickly, pivot as needed, and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to manage several projects and responsibilities simultaneously.
- Solid documentation and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with technicians, auditors, and cross-functional teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Degree in a science-related field is preferred.
- SQF Auditor certification is preferred.
- Experience with BRC audits is a plus.
- Experience or coursework in chemistry is a plus.
- Experience in quality compliance is a plus, particularly within regulated food environments.
- Exposure to waste water regulatory audits or environmental compliance is beneficial.
- Experience supporting R&D activities, especially on the feed side or with new vendor streams, is an advantage.

Work Environment This role operates in a food industry facility that includes laboratory and production areas. The environment may involve strong or unpleasant odors, and candidates should be comfortable working in such conditions. The position follows a Monday through Friday day shift schedule, providing a consistent workweek. The role involves regular interaction with lab equipment, documentation systems, and audit processes, as well as collaboration with cross-functional teams across quality, operations, and R&D.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $32.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
