Quality Engineer

Job Title: Quality Engineer Job Description The Quality Engineer leads quality systems, customer issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives within a high-volume automotive glass manufacturing environment. This role supports certification audits, drives corrective actions, and ensures production processes meet customer and industry standards while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and acting as a key customer liaison. Responsibilities

- Lead the team in applying internal safety codes and maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
- Translate customer requirements into clear production specifications, control plans, and process FMEAs to ensure products meet all quality expectations.
- Provide direction, coaching, and development for hourly auditor teams to strengthen overall quality performance.
- Complete internal auditor training and effectively communicate audit findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Lead and support certification audits to maintain compliance with industry and customer quality standards.
- Conduct weekly quality improvement meetings and drive PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) activities with cross-functional teams.
- Act as a customer liaison, including traveling to customer sites to investigate and resolve quality concerns.
- Support first production trials for new and existing parts, monitoring PPM (parts per million) metrics to drive continuous improvement.
- Lead corrective action tracking for customer complaints, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Audit quality systems and processes to verify adherence to established standards and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Apply APQP methodologies, including control plans, FMEA, process documentation, and revision control, to support robust product launches and ongoing production.
- Collaborate with supplier quality and other stakeholders to address root cause analysis and implement corrective action plans.
- Prepare and maintain quality documentation, reports, and records to support audits, customer requirements, and internal reviews.

Essential Skills

- Bachelors degree, preferably in Engineering or a related technical field.
- 35 years of manufacturing or quality experience in a production environment, ideally within automotive or glass manufacturing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis and develop effective corrective actions.
- Proven communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and customers.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed to customer sites for quality support and issue resolution.
- Hands-on experience with APQP, including control plans, FMEA, process documentation, and revision control.
- Experience in quality engineering practices such as PPAP, quality assurance, and supplier quality management.
- Experience conducting audits and working within structured quality systems.
- Ability to lead and develop auditor teams and communicate audit findings clearly and constructively.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with OEM customer quality systems, particularly those used by major automotive manufacturers such as GM, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, and Nissan.
- Black Belt or Green Belt Six Sigma certification, demonstrating advanced skills in process improvement and data-driven problem solving.
- Program management experience, including coordinating quality activities across multiple projects or product lines.
- Certified TS16949 auditor or equivalent experience with automotive quality management systems.
- Experience with customer support in a technical or quality-focused capacity.
- Experience in supplier quality, including auditing suppliers and managing supplier corrective actions.
- Familiarity with PDCA and other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to work effectively as a customer-facing auditor and quality representative.

Work Environment This role operates in a high-volume automotive glass manufacturing facility with a focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement. The work environment involves close collaboration with production, engineering, and quality teams, as well as regular interaction with customers and suppliers. The schedule follows a day shift, with typical start times between 79 AM and end times between 46 PM. The position requires adherence to internal safety codes and quality standards, participation in certification audits, and occasional travel to customer sites. Team members use established quality tools and methodologies such as APQP, FMEA, PPAP, TS16949, and Six Sigma to manage and improve processes. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $46.64/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
