Airworthiness Coordinator

Job Title: Certification Engineer Airworthiness and Compliance Job Description
This role leads and coordinates certification activities for aerospace projects, ensuring that all designs and modifications meet applicable airworthiness, regulatory, and internal engineering standards. You will act as the primary interface with Transport Canada, manage certification files, and support ongoing airworthiness for products under design approval. The position is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of design, regulation, and safety within a highly technical aerospace environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate certification activities for individual projects from initial application through final approval, in accordance with established engineering procedures.
- Verify and validate all documentation required to demonstrate compliance with certification requirements, ensuring alignment with engineering operations, customer expectations, airworthiness standards, general engineering standards, and internal company requirements.
- Determine the extent of affected airworthiness standards for each project and define the proposed basis of certification and means of compliance with those standards.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with the appropriate Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) regional certification engineer for assigned projects, ensuring clear, consistent, and timely communication.
- Create, organize, and maintain comprehensive certification project files for each project, ensuring all records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
- Monitor the continued airworthiness of products for which the organization holds design approval certificates and coordinate corrective actions when required.
- Attend Continuous Airworthiness Board meetings and contribute technical input related to certification, continued airworthiness, and regulatory compliance.
- Support the definition, implementation, maintenance, and approval of the Design Approval Procedures Manual and related engineering procedures.
- Support the planning and execution of technical audits to verify compliance of the engineering department with the Design Approval Procedures Manual and relevant procedures, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Stay current with TCCA and foreign airworthiness standards, regulations, and guidance material, and apply updates to ongoing and future projects.
- Support the nomination and evaluation of candidates for Designated Engineer positions by providing input on technical competencies and regulatory understanding.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure that certification requirements are integrated into design activities and that compliance evidence is properly developed and documented.
- Prepare clear, structured reports and documentation related to certification activities, compliance findings, and corrective actions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of certification processes, tools, and documentation to enhance efficiency and regulatory robustness.
Essential Skills
- 57 years of overall professional experience in an engineering environment, with a strong engineering background required.
- Proven experience working with Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) on certification or regulatory compliance activities.
- Hands-on experience with Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) certifications, including preparation of compliance data and coordination with authorities.
- Experience working on compliance projects, including defining means of compliance and managing supporting documentation.
- Experience facilitating technical and regulatory coordination between engineering teams and Transport Canada.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with regulators, internal stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, detailed technical and compliance reports.
- Ability to successfully obtain and maintain a Controlled Goods designation (CGD) or equivalent security clearance, as required by the role.
- Solid understanding of airworthiness standards and regulatory frameworks relevant to commercial and rotorcraft aviation.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for managing certification files, documentation, and audit records.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Avionics engineering background or experience working with avionics systems is an asset.
- Project management experience, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating multi-disciplinary activities, is an asset.
- Familiarity with Design Approval Procedures Manuals and design organization approval (DOA) processes is beneficial.
- Experience with commercial aircraft environments, including exposure to inventory control or maintenance operations, is advantageous.
- Previous involvement in technical audits, quality assurance, or regulatory inspections is a plus.
- Interest in continued professional development in airworthiness, certification, and regulatory compliance within the aerospace sector.
Work Environment
The role is based in a professional aerospace manufacturing and technical operations environment focused on helicopter production, composite manufacturing, repair and overhaul, aircraft modifications, and customer support. You will work closely with engineers and other aerospace professionals in a structured, regulated setting where safety, quality, documentation, and regulatory compliance are central to daily activities. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Erie, ON.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $55.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
