Field Service Engineer

Job Title: Field Service Engineer Job Description The Field Service Engineer travels extensively throughout the Northeast and across the U.S. to install, maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair XRF and materials testing equipment at customer sites. This highly hands-on role combines electronic and mechanical diagnostics, preventative maintenance, instrument performance verification, and customer training, both onsite and remotely. The position requires a strong technical foundation, the ability to work independently in diverse customer environments, and a commitment to ensuring equipment reliability and adherence to ISO manufacturing and regulatory standards. Responsibilities

- Travel to customer facilities throughout the Northeast and across the U.S. to install, service, and support XRF and materials analysis systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electronic and mechanical issues on XRF and other materials testing equipment to restore proper operation.
- Perform preventative maintenance, calibration, and performance verification to ensure instruments operate reliably and meet required specifications.
- Install, configure, and commission new XRF and materials analysis systems, including installation verification and functional testing.
- Adhere to ISO manufacturing standards and relevant regulatory requirements while servicing, installing, and repairing equipment at customer sites.
- Provide onsite and remote technical support to customers, resolving equipment issues and answering operational questions.
- Train customers on proper operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of XRF and materials testing equipment.
- Document service activities, maintenance performed, and technical findings clearly and accurately for internal records and customer reporting.
- Work independently in customer environments, managing schedules, priorities, and travel logistics while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
- Support non-destructive testing (NDT) and radiation-related manufacturing applications by ensuring equipment safety, reliability, and compliance.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships by communicating clearly, demonstrating technical expertise, and delivering high-quality service.
- Represent the service organization effectively at customer sites, acting as a trusted technical resource and contributing to long-term customer satisfaction.

Essential Skills

- Technical associates degree or bachelors degree in a relevant field is required.
- Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and professionally.
- Demonstrated initiative and confidence to work independently, solve problems, and make sound decisions at customer sites.
- Experience with electronic repair and troubleshooting, including diagnosing and resolving issues in complex electronic systems.
- Ability to install, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and service XRF and materials analysis systems or similar electronic instrumentation.
- Capability to perform preventative maintenance and verify instrument performance to meet operational and quality standards.
- Understanding of ISO manufacturing standards and willingness to adhere to regulatory and compliance requirements during service work.
- Comfort working in environments involving non-destructive testing (NDT) and radiation-related manufacturing processes.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including overnight stays, to support customers across multiple territories.
- Strong organizational skills to manage travel schedules, service priorities, and documentation with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience or coursework in electronics, instrumentation, materials science, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience with XRF technology, precision measurement, or materials analysis equipment.
- Familiarity with aerospace, electronics, medical device, automotive, energy, or advanced manufacturing environments.
- Comfort providing remote technical support and guiding customers through troubleshooting steps.
- Ability to build long-term customer relationships and act as a trusted technical advisor.
- Interest in ongoing technical development, including advanced training in XRF systems, calibration, and certification.
- Preference for candidates based in Connecticut who can occasionally visit the Windsor facility when needed.

Work Environment This role is field-based with approximately 85% travel, primarily by car within the region and by plane when supporting other territories. When not traveling, the position operates remotely, allowing you to manage service planning, documentation, and customer support from your home base. Occasional visits to a Connecticut facility in Windsor may be required, though this is uncommon. You will work in a variety of customer manufacturing and laboratory environments, including facilities that use non-destructive testing and radiation-related manufacturing processes. The work is hands-on, involves advanced XRF and materials testing instrumentation, and offers exposure to aerospace, electronics, medical device, automotive, energy, and other advanced manufacturing industries. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $80000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
