Job Description The Project Engineer plays a key role on the project team from day one, working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, designers, and trade partners to plan, coordinate, and execute construction work in both the field and the office. This position offers broad exposure to the full construction lifecycle, including project planning, field coordination, cost tracking, and documentation. The role provides meaningful responsibility, hands-on learning, and mentorship to build strong technical foundations and prepare you for future leadership opportunities in project management, supervision, or other career paths within construction. Responsibilities

- Support the Project Manager and Superintendent with day-to-day project coordination and execution across the field and office.
- Assist in developing and maintaining detailed project schedules, coordinating work among subcontractors, suppliers, and field teams.
- Participate in constructability reviews and site logistics planning to identify potential challenges early and propose practical solutions.
- Serve as a communication link between field personnel, designers, owners, and internal teams to keep information flowing accurately and on time.
- Track project progress, documentation, and coordination items using project management software and established project controls.
- Assist in reviewing on-site work to verify alignment with construction drawings, specifications, and company quality standards.
- Review submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
- Support layout verification and on-site coordination to help resolve design or installation conflicts in the field.
- Participate in safety meetings, audits, and pre-installation reviews to promote a safe and compliant jobsite.
- Help track inspections, testing activities, and quality documentation to ensure proper records and compliance.
- Assist with identifying, documenting, and tracking scope changes and associated cost impacts throughout the project.
- Maintain accurate project records, including RFIs, submittals, drawings, logs, and field reports, in accordance with company standards.
- Support preparation and processing of purchase orders and change documentation for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Participate in monthly project reviews and audits to monitor performance, risk, and compliance with project objectives.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners to support project success.
- Communicate clearly and proactively with all stakeholders to keep teams aligned and move issues toward timely resolution.
- Contribute to a jobsite culture that emphasizes teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Represent the organization with integrity on-site and within the broader construction industry.

Essential Skills

- 25 years of construction experience with a general contractor, gained through internships or full-time roles.
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications accurately.
- Experience working with construction documents, including RFIs, submittals, and field reports.
- Understanding of commercial construction processes, sequencing, and field operations.
- Familiarity with managing or supporting change orders and scope changes on construction projects.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, documentation, and deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with project teams and stakeholders.
- Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to identify issues early and help develop practical solutions.
- Proactive, team-oriented mindset with a strong interest in building a long-term career in construction.
- Comfort using project management software and digital tools to track schedules, documentation, and coordination items.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Construction management or engineering coursework or degree that supports technical understanding of building systems.
- Hands-on experience with field reporting, site observations, and documenting daily construction activities.
- Exposure to commercial construction projects and familiarity with standard industry practices.
- Interest in working on diverse and technically challenging projects that expand technical and leadership skills.
- Desire to work in an environment that emphasizes safety, quality craftsmanship, and ethical business practices.
- Motivation to grow into leadership roles such as Project Manager, Superintendent, or other construction leadership positions.

Work Environment This role involves a mix of office-based work and time spent on active construction sites. You will regularly move between the office and jobsite to support planning, coordination, and field execution. Travel between regional offices may be required based on project assignments. Field work may include exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, noise, and typical construction site environments. You will work with project management software and digital tools in the office, while collaborating closely with field teams, trade partners, and design professionals on site. This is a Permanent position based out of Columbus, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $95000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
