Distribution Manager

GENERAL SUMMARY :

The Distribution Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and strategic oversight of the distribution facility, ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost-effective movement of goods from receipt to delivery. This role plays a critical part in aligning warehouse operations and transportation logistics to meet customer and production demands while maintaining high standards of compliance, safety, and performance. By managing cross-functional teams, optimizing resources, and driving continuous improvement, the Distribution Manager contributes directly to operational excellence and supports the organization’s broader supply chain and customer service goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

- Oversee the overall operation of the distribution facility, ensuring alignment with company objectives and the safe, efficient, compliant, and cost-effective movement of goods.
- Develop and execute strategic plans for distribution and transportation, including but not limited to resource planning, workflow optimization, and alignment with production and customer service.
- Directly manage and support the onsite and extended teams to create seamless coordination between local facilities, warehouse operations and transportation logistics.
- Provide building leadership and maintain a high-performing team through coaching, performance management, succession planning, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Drive operational excellence by leading tier meetings, overseeing key metrics, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration across departments and with external partners.
- Champion health and safety by maintaining an effective safety management program, conducting incident investigations, and ensuring compliance with legal and organizational standards.
- Lead and monitor the execution of continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean principles (Kaizen, 5S), small K ideas, packaging and product quality controls, and process audits for optimal results.
- Oversee the cycle count program , manage physical inventory requirements, and provide accurate information and data integrity.
- Manage the order fulfillment process.
- Oversee inbound and outbound freight management, including the coordination of all North American and international shipments, raw materials, finished goods, and third-party logistics services.
- Lead the development and enforcement of transportation standards and procedures, ensuring safe, cost-effective, timely, and regulation-compliant material movement.
- Negotiate and manage freight contracts, service-level agreements, and customs-related documentation with carriers, freight forwarders, and third-party service providers.
- Review and communicate carrier performance and expectations with logistics providers.
- Monitor and control freight budgets, validate all transportation-related invoices, ensure financial accuracy and audit readiness of freight and customs transactions.
- Ensure all documentation is processed and stored in accordance with company guidelines.
- Address escalated transportation issues, customer complaints, and freight claims; develop contingency plans to maintain customer satisfaction and business continuity.
- Ensure full compliance with applicable trade regulations, safety guidelines, and company policies across all distribution and transportation activities.
- Lead ongoing training programs and ensure safety protocols and procedures are consistently followed across the distribution and logistics teams.
- Represent the distribution function in cross-functional meetings and contribute to overall supply chain strategy development and execution.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, business, or related field required; or additional years of direct experience in lieu of degree.
- Requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor; as well as a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.

- Ability to guide situations in accordance with standard practices; escalates issues accordingly.
- Must perform a variety of duties and operate within established practices and procedures covered by precedents.
- Must set priorities and meet specific goals and objectives.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Incumbent must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, balance, kneel, talk, hear, and lift up to 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is representative of those an employee would encounter in a normal Distribution Center environment. The noise level is usually moderate.
