Job Description:

Bring Southwest Airlines’ story to life through the voices of its Leaders. As Principal Executive Communications Consultant, you’ll partner with the Manager of Executive Communications to shape clear narrative pillars for a core group of Executives, including the CEO and Leaders across priority business areas. You’ll develop and execute long-term communication strategies that connect Company priorities, performance, and Purpose in ways that inspire Employees, Customers, and stakeholders. By equipping Leaders to serve as authentic, visible storytellers, you’ll strengthen alignment, build trust, and help Southwest communicate with clarity and impact during both defining moments and everyday opportunities. You’ll also evolve Executive communication plans to support sustained Leadership impact while mentoring Team Members and fostering a culture of excellence, creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

- Within defined corporate narratives and in partnership with the Manager of Executive Communications, develop and contribute to clear pillars for a core set of Executives, positioning them internally and externally as trusted voices for Southwest. Ensure alignment between Executive messages and broader enterprise priorities.
- Collaborate with internal partners to identify opportunities to position a core group of Executives across internal, external, and stakeholder channels and develop robust, 360° platforms, connecting business priorities and enterprise goals to key audiences.
- Serve as trusted senior strategic communication advisor to a core group of Executives, providing strategic counsel and materials that reinforce the Company’s Purpose, Vision, and Values. (i.e. talking points, scripts, event prep, speeches, stump speech, etc.)
- Influence the Executive narrative and strategy within cross-functional communication plans for major Company events, announcements, and change initiatives.
- Assess and refine communication strategies through data, engagement metrics, and sentiment analysis to drive continuous improvement.
- Advise key Executives during moments of change or challenge and advise on Executive crisis communication strategy to ensure clarity, consistency, and trust among Employees, Customers, media, and other stakeholders.
- Mentor and provide senior-level thought leadership to peers and junior Team Members, shaping communication standards and elevating Team capability.
- May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Knowledge of Executive communication strategies, narrative pillars, and strategic storytelling
- Skilled in verbal and written communications and presentations with the ability to translate complex business topics into authentic, human-centered messaging
- Skilled in Microsoft Office and communication tools; familiarity with emerging digital communication platforms preferred.
- Ability to exercise strategic judgment under pressure, especially during times of crisis or organizational change.
- Ability to influence and advise senior Executives on communication strategies tied to organizational outcomes.

Education

- Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience

- Innovator-level experience, highest level of knowledge in: Advising Senior Executives and shaping Executive communication strategies that align with business priorities
- Leading Enterprise communication efforts that drive measurable outcomes and reinforce Company reputation
- Providing strategic counsel during organizational change, transformation, and crisis situations

- Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications

- Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be willing to travel for work as needed
- Must be willing to work outside of 8-5 hours as needed depending on the needs of the business
- Must maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive Company information
- May have air travel with overnight stays as required by role

Competitive market salary from $153,000.00 per year to $170,000.00 per

year* depending on qualifications and experience.

For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
