The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced, highly capable People Advisor to join our People team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

This is a hands-on role with a strong Employee Relations focus, but it goes beyond traditional case management. You will take ownership of complex and sensitive people matters, provide trusted advice to managers and colleagues, and use data, insight and trends to identify opportunities to improve our people practices and prevent issues before they arise.

You will manage a significant and varied caseload including a substantial number of long-term sickness cases. Alongside day-to-day case management, you will play a key role in analysing people data, identifying trends and feeding insight back into the Business Units to support proactive decision-making.

We are looking for someone who is strategic but action-oriented — someone who can see the bigger picture but is equally comfortable taking the notes, having the difficult conversations, completing the investigation and getting things done. This role requires a high degree of autonomy, sound judgement and trust.

What You'll Be Doing

- Own and manage a complex ER caseload, including long-term sickness, absence, disciplinary, grievance and capability matters.
- Provide expert, pragmatic ER advice to managers, Head Of People and People Business Partners, ensuring cases are handled consistently, fairly and in line with legislation.
- Use people data and analytics to identify trends, risks and themes across ER, absence, turnover and exit interviews, turning insight into proactive preventative actions.
- Take ownership of policy reviews and updates, ensuring policies remain legally compliant and aligned with business needs.
- Support complex and high-risk ER matters, including employment tribunal cases, working closely with employment lawyers where required.
- Coach and train managers on ER, people policies and processes, including supporting the Front Line Manager (FLM) training programme.
- Manage the Occupational Health provider, challenging where appropriate and using insight to improve absence management, including specialist processes such as drug and alcohol testing.
- Partner closely with the offshore People Hub, UK People teams, HOPs and Business Units to provide a consistent and trusted people service.
- Work autonomously, taking full ownership of issues from start to finish while knowing when to escalate or seek specialist support.
- Balance strategic thinking with a hands-on, action-oriented approach, using data and insight to improve people outcomes and prevent recurring issues.

About You

You will be an experienced Employee Relations / People professional who is confident operating independently in a fast-paced environment.

You will be:

- Highly experienced in Employee Relations, with a strong understanding of UK employment legislation and best practice.
- Comfortable managing a high-volume and complex caseload, including long-term sickness and sensitive employee matters.
- Confident handling complex and potentially high-risk ER cases.
- Comfortable working with employment lawyers and understanding when legal advice is required.
- Data-driven, with the ability to analyse people data, spot trends and turn insight into action.
- Naturally curious — interested not just in resolving individual cases, but understanding the underlying causes and preventing recurrence.
- A strong communicator who can build credibility with managers and senior stakeholders.
- Comfortable delivering manager training and facilitating sessions with confidence.
- Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail and case management discipline.
- Able to work autonomously and take genuine ownership from beginning to end.
- Strategic in your thinking but action-oriented in your approach.
- Someone who can be trusted to use their judgement, get into the detail and get things done.
- Comfortable challenging stakeholders constructively when required.
- Commercially minded, pragmatic and solutions-focused.

We are committed to building a diverse environment and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. You will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or age.
