Platform Engineer, Content Delivery and Engineering Tools (Remote)

Job Description:

At Abercrombie & Fitch, the Platform Engineer, Content Delivery & Engineering Tools (CDET) is responsible for supporting the platforms and services that enable both our digital customer experience and software delivery ecosystem. The CDET team plays a critical role in ensuring our eCommerce platforms remain fast, reliable, secure, and scalable while providing engineering teams with the tools and capabilities needed to build, deploy, and operate applications efficiently.

This role will mainly support and enhance the Content Delivery Network but will also be folded into key technologies including our GitLab, GitLab Runners, Sonatype Nexus, Cursor, and related coding and automation platforms. Partnering closely with application development teams, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Information Security, Infrastructure, and Architecture teams, this engineer will help improve application performance, security posture, developer productivity, platform reliability, and operational excellence across the organization. This role offers a unique opportunity to grow outside of customer facing ecommerce and into engineer focused tooling.

What Will You Be Doing?

- Support and administer the Content Delivery Network (CDN), including caching strategies, traffic routing, performance optimization, and edge service configurations.
- Partner with engineering teams to improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and software delivery workflows.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across content delivery infrastructure which includes internal applications and ecommerce applications.
- Develop automation and Infrastructure-as-Code solutions to improve platform scalability, consistency, and operational efficiency.
- Monitor platform health, performance, and adoption through observability tools and implement improvements based on operational insights.
- Participate in on-call support rotation, incident response, root cause analysis, platform upgrades, capacity planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, standards, and support playbooks while evaluating emerging technologies that can improve both developer and customer experiences.
- 101 knowledge of engineering platforms including GitLab, GitLab Runners, Sonatype Nexus, Cursor, and other developer productivity tools.

What Do You Need To Bring?

- 3+ years experience working with Content Delivery Networks (CDN), preferably Fastly.
- Knowledge of web technologies including HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, SSL/TLS, caching, load balancing, and application delivery concepts.
- Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure and services, preferably Azure.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code concepts and tools such as Terraform.
- Experience utilizing observability platforms such as Splunk and Dynatrace.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across distributed systems.
- Experience developing scripts and automation using Python, PowerShell, Bash, curl, nslookup, dig, or similar languages.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.
- Ability to balance operational support responsibilities with engineering and automation initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to Have

- Advanced Fastly administration experience, including VCL development, edge logic, traffic steering, caching optimization, and troubleshooting complex content delivery scenarios.
- Experience supporting large-scale eCommerce platforms with a strong understanding of website performance, availability, and customer experience considerations.
- Experience administering Git-based source control platforms, preferably GitLab.
- Knowledge of web application security concepts including Web Application Firewalls (WAF), bot mitigation, traffic management, and edge security controls.
- Experience implementing platform automation and self-service capabilities that improve developer productivity and reduce operational overhead.
- Familiarity with software supply chain security, artifact governance, and secure software delivery practices.
- Experience evaluating, implementing, governing, or supporting AI-assisted development tools and workflows within an enterprise environment.
- Experience leading platform modernization initiatives or driving adoption of engineering best practices across multiple development teams.

This role allows for remote work across the U.S.. Therefore, in states and cities that require the hourly or salary compensation or pay range to be included in a job posting, the recruiting pay range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, your years of experience, your work location, comparison to other employees in similar or related roles, or market demands. The range may be modified in the future.
