The Position

The GMCL is a medical, global field-based role working across countries and affiliates to accelerate the development and delivery of medicines to patients through effective medical customer engagement across the lifecycle of a molecule/Disease Area (DA).

• Acts as a strategic medical partner for global teams and affiliate colleagues to execute the efficient delivery of medical strategy and external customer engagement activities within the assigned DA(s) and geography

• Understands needs and supports strategic planning and tactical deployment across different phases of the DA(s) lifecycle, including but not limited to how to address recruitment and retention challenges in clinical development programs, how to shape and improve HCPs and patient journeys, how to support medical launch readiness and access in the assigned geographies

• Serves as an above country medical expert, establishing scientific collaborations and value based partnerships with different healthcare stakeholders (including TAEs, scientific societies and site staff), as appropriate

• The GMCL supports our medicines and disease areas with an end to end mindset, providing input and support since the early stages of the DA(s) area lifecycle, as appropriate and aligned to business priorities

Summary of Main Responsibilities

1. Develops and facilitates relationships and collaborative networks with external stakeholders ensuring Roche is the preferred partner and championing a ONE Roche approach

● Establishes and maintains valued and trusted relationships with key external stakeholders (including therapeutic area experts, patient organisations, global and local scientific societies, academia, and policy and access stakeholders, as appropriate and according to internal and external SOPs and regulations)

● Acts as the ‘face of Roche’ with scientific stakeholders and an ambassador for the values of the organisation, particularly in new Disease Areas, acting as in field medical PPOC for the external stakeholders in the geographies covered

● Drives external scientific knowledge exchange with experts in the assigned countries, including medical education activities, as appropriate

● Identifies, catalyse and progresses key opportunities for medical initiatives and partnerships with and between internal and external stakeholders at global and affiliate level

● Supports the HCX strategy by providing the necessary insights to enable a customer centric approach and leverages all the available communication channels to ensure an optimal customer experience

● Contributes to the disease area medical team (DAMT) TAE engagement initiatives and outcomes, executing all activities with customer centricity as a core principle

● Stays abreast of internal and external developments, trends and other dynamics relevant for the assigned DA(s) to maintain an updated view and perspectives of external influences (including e.g. Digital Health, personalization of medicine, patient- and healthcare ecosystem-centricity)

2. Engages, educates and partners with investigators and site staff to enable and expedite successful delivery of clinical development programs within the assigned DA(s) (from early through late stage development)

● Works closely and collaboratively with global and affiliate Clinical Operations and Clinical Science teams (across PD, gRED and pRED) in all stages of deployment of the studies to ensure an holistic and coordinated identification, selection and engagement of clinical trials sites, championing a ONE ROCHE approach within the DA(s)

● Depending on experience, knowledge and capacity may act as a SPOC representative for one or more clinical trials to represent the GMCL team in relevant global forums and/or Study management teams; the GMCL also collaborates with affiliate field medical teams (e.g., MSLs, MSPs), as relevant, to ensure an aligned approach in supporting clinical development programs across geographies

● Helps to set and act on shared and aligned DA priorities within the cross-functional team, and relay/flag any potential mismatch in priorities between internal stakeholders & the sites

● Engages directly with clinical trial sites to drive DA(s) and molecule-related scientific conversations to support patient recruitment and retention activities by ensuring confidence and motivation of site staff across the development program

● Leverages opportunities to build partnership and engage with investigators and site staff through different virtual and face-to-face channels (including sites visits, investigators meetings, investigators receptions and national and international congresses)

● Suggests and/or implements innovative approaches to optimize and/or accelerate trial design, start-up, recruitment, retention and data collection in close collaboration with responsible and/or accountable internal and external partners

● Proactively gathers and shares internally site staff and investigator feedback and insights to optimise clinical development performance and overall customer experience

● Contribute to surfacing global and local data gaps to inform the IEP

● Discusses and supports IIS, compassionate use programmes and data strategies that support access activities, in full alignment with the DA(s)/ asset strategy

3. Provides real-time insights and ground level understanding of the disease area landscape across countries to inform cross-functional strategies

● Partners with all relevant internal colleagues to inform and define the insight collection strategy (including but not limited to definition of listening priorities, in field support to the Integrated Insight Plan, aggregation, distribution and discussion of insights reports with internal stakeholders)

● Executes insights gathering activities to address knowledge gaps (e.g. advisory boards, steering committees, proactive insight gathering plans, external customer surveys, as appropriate)

● Effectively disseminates key insights to business partners through various channels in line with agreed team practice and gathers feedback on the process and insights shared to ensure continuous optimization of data-driven recommendations

● Maps and profiles external stakeholders to inform and build engagement plans aligned with customer needs and preferences, using the appropriate systems and tools (including but not limited to channel preferences, research interests, pharma collaboration interests…)

● Builds a comprehensive understanding of the local environment and enable insights on customer perspective, beliefs and behaviours to be surfaced and considered in strategic and tactical decisions

● Proactively updates the organisation’s understanding of developments in the disease area, in the competitive landscape, clinical practices, clinical management, research and the patient/carer experience

● Stays proactively informed about, and utilizes, technological advancements (e.g., AI, new internal systems and tools) to enhance compliant insight collection, aggregation, and distribution

4. Partners with global cross-functional colleagues and affiliates to enhance medical launch readiness and support access to treatment in assigned countries

● Acts as disease area champion, supporting affiliate awareness and engagement in the assigned disease area(s) (including support for training activities of internal staff in collaboration with the relevant global and affiliate teams)

● Supports affiliate introduction into the assigned DA(s) by accelerating understanding of the disease area ecosystem

● Leads and/or contributes to global and/or local work packages to incorporate the external customer's perspective

● Supports the understanding and alignment with the global strategy to drive effective affiliate planning and decision making

● Supports and/or drives the local implementation of field-based activities defined within the DACS and CORP in collaboration with relevant global and affiliates colleagues and in compliance with local requirements

● Integrates effectively into affiliate practices and culture, becoming a fully integrated member of the local cross-functional team

● Serves as an above-country medical expert to support medical launch/access in the affiliates. This involves engagement with leading TAEs in the disease area where there is limited or no medical resource assigned as well as sharing medical expertise with local staff, ensuring appropriate training and ongoing medical support.

● Where and when applicable, drives a seamless handover to affiliates colleagues sharing local insights, training new staff, supporting connections and facilitating relationships between customers and local staff assigned to the Disease Area(s), in collaboration with other relevant global stakeholders

5. Contributes to the high performance and innovation of the GMC function to optimise customer experience and to evolve to meet the needs of the organisation

● Drives and/or actively participates in initiatives within the GMC Community to develop new approaches for enhanced customer engagement and experience, thereby furthering team objectives and outcomes

● Ensures compliance with all applicable SOPs, systems, and tools, including those for tracking interactions with customers and collecting insights, as required for the role and function

● Actively fosters a psychologically safe work environment within the DA team and the wider community, adopting and promoting a culture of open feedback

● Ensures efficient collaboration with the team mates to capitalise on best practices and contributes to team/function specific working practices, standards and innovation

● Maintains the highest standards and level of scientific expertise in the team by contributing to the onboarding of new team members and continuous learning activities (e.g. journal clubs, congresses updates)

Professional and Technical Requirements and Experience

● Required: Master Degree in science or related field. Highly desirable: Postgraduate Degree (PhD, PharmD, MSc, MD, MBA)

● Significant experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry at global/affiliate level

● Experience in Medical Affairs, Product Development or Early Development is essential, including understanding and experience of processes and procedures for clinical trials

● Substantial experience in a medical/scientific field customer facing role is required

● Fluency in Written and Spoken English is mandatory

● Fluency in Written and Spoken language of the host country is mandatory (native speakers are strongly preferred)

● Deep scientific knowledge of one or more Disease Areas within the Metabolic Disease spectrum (Obesity, Diabetes, ASCVD, Heart Failure) is required. Experience in the Cardiovascular disease area is preferred.

● Knowledge of the overall drug development, life cycle process and experience in development and implementation of clinical trials, and or other methods of other data generation activities

● Understands and maintains knowledge of global and local regulations, guidelines and SOPs, GXP standards and other important business intelligence resources relevant to the role

● Solid knowledge of drug safety /pharmacovigilance and of all Roche internal SOPs related to this matter

Demonstrates adaptability to evolving business needs, readily transitioning across diverse disease areas, functions, and specialized topics.

The role requires in-field presence, including national and some international travel, with a strong emphasis on regular customer meetings. There is a preference for candidates who are based, or will be relocating (no relocation support offered) to Shanghai.
