Position Summary
Reporting to the Superintendent or Project Manager, the Foreman is responsible for managing and directing a crew of workers to deliver a successful project by meeting or exceeding corporate and project goals for safety, quality, profitability, and schedule, resulting in extreme customer satisfaction.
Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Pre-plan work with Superintendent, including methods and safety action plans.
- Review contracts, plans, and documentation to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Plan daily operations and ensure resources (labor, tools, equipment, materials) are in place.
- Oversee crew performance, safety compliance, and follow-up actions (training, discipline, etc.).
- Conduct daily briefings on production goals, safety, schedule, and hazards.
- Model and enforce safe work practices; ensure proper safety equipment is used.
- Communicate with customers, contractors, and subcontractors; motivate and train crew.
- Perform administrative tasks including reports, timesheets, logs, inspection records, and change orders.
- Complete other project-related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience in rail infrastructure construction.
- Knowledge of track construction and maintenance.
- Ability to read project documents, plans, and schedules.
- Keep records and prepare work/time reports.
- Supervise crews and communicate instructions clearly.
- Understand occupational hazards and enforce safety precautions.
- Strong client relations and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Works outdoors at construction sites
- Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, lifts, bends, and moves objects up to 50 pounds
- Exposed to all weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather
- Exposed to loud noise
- May be exposed to live track/trains and high voltage.
