Job Requirements
Under the direction of the Manager and/or Supervisor, Caretaking Services, the Relief Caretaker is accountable for the care, cleaning and security of the school and its grounds, including scheduling of work, directing staff and performing general caretaking duties when the Head Caretaker, Assistant Head Caretaker, Caretaker or Assistant Caretaker V is not on duty, in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the District’s Occupational Health & Safety practices and procedures.
Specific Accountabilities
- Performs interior and exterior cleaning of school and grounds maintenance
- Applies proper caretaking procedures and provides competent leadership
- Schedules and directs the work of Cleaners and Cleaning Assistants for efficiency
- Works and communicates effectively with caretaking and support staff, teachers, school administration, caretaking supervision and students
- Services (limited) and operates (fully) mechanical and heating systems
- Performs minor building maintenance
- Performs limited preventative maintenance work on various building components
- Performs other duties as may be required by the Principal and/or Manager and Supervisor, Caretaking Services
Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Possession of a valid Alberta Building Operator “B” Certificate, or Fifth Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency, and meets the minimum legislated requirement for heating surfaces in accordance with the Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA), together with demonstrated ability to properly and safely start up and operate a school heating system
- Successful completion of Calgary Catholic training course in caretaking procedures
- Valid Alberta Drivers’ License Class 5 and a vehicle in good operating condition
- Demonstrated communication skills in both oral and written English
- Successfully complete a physical demands analysis
- Self-motivated who has demonstrated ability to apply proper caretaking procedures and to provide competent leadership as well as effective scheduling and supervision of work
- Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously and communicate effectively
- Demonstrated ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance of structures and equipment
- Ability to maintain air handling equipment to designed standards
- Must be able to lift up 50 pounds
- Must be physically able to complete all demands and responsibilities of this position
- Must be able to work safely on ladders at heights of 6 to 10 feet or higher on occasion
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of District applications
