The EHS Specialist III serves as a visible safety leader and trusted advisor, partnering with operational teams to proactively identify hazards, reduce risk, strengthen safety culture, and drive continuous improvement across multiple laboratory, manufacturing, and support environments.

Responsibilities:

- Serve as the primary point of contact for Environmental, Health & Safety matters and provide day-to-day coaching and support to operational leaders and employees
- Maintain a strong field presence and routinely engage employees where work is performed. Conduct safety engagement walks, ergonomic observations, risk assessments, inspections, and verification activities to identify hazards and opportunities before incidents occur
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and learning reviews. Ensure corrective and preventive actions address underlying system issues and are implemented effectively and sustainably
- Utilize leading indicators, employee observations, hazard reports, near misses, and safety engagement data to identify emerging trends and proactively drive risk reduction initiatives
- Partner with operations to design, implement, and verify engineering controls, administrative controls, and process improvements that reduce employee exposure and improve workplace safety
- Lead ergonomic risk reduction efforts through task observations, employee engagement, risk assessments, control implementation, and effectiveness verification
- Develop, implement, and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, safe work practices, and EHS program requirements
- Facilitate and deliver EHS training, safety stand downs, toolbox talks, and employee engagement activities that promote ownership and accountability for safety
- Conduct regular audits, inspections, and program assessments to verify compliance and identify opportunities for operational excellence
- Analyze incident, audit, inspection, and leading indicator data to identify trends and develop meaningful actions that prevent recurrence and improve performance
- Support business continuity, emergency preparedness, and response activities, including drills, exercises, and incident response planning
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to evaluate new processes, equipment, facility modifications, and operational changes to ensure risks are identified and addressed before implementation
- Support environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives while ensuring alignment with corporate EHS expectations and applicable regulatory requirements
- Influence safety culture through visible leadership, effective communication, coaching, and engagement at all organizational levels
- Support multiple locations and provide both onsite and remote EHS leadership as needed
- Travel as required to support field activities, investigations, assessments, audits, and business initiatives

REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related technical field plus 5 years of EHS experience, or advanced degree plus 3 years of relevant experience
- Experience supporting laboratory, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, manufacturing, chemical, or highly regulated environments
- Demonstrated success leading incident investigations, root cause analyses, risk assessments, and corrective action programs
- Experience conducting ergonomic assessments and implementing practical risk reduction strategies
- Experience developing and delivering employee training and safety engagement programs
- Experience working across multiple sites and influencing teams in a matrixed organization
- Experience using leading indicators and performance data to drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CRSP, CHMM, or equivalent are preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, environmental regulations, industrial hygiene principles, hazard recognition, risk assessment methodologies, and EHS management systems
- Demonstrated ability to identify hazards, assess risk, and develop practical and sustainable solutions
- Strong leadership and influencing skills with the ability to build trust and credibility at all levels of an organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level presentations and technical report writing
- Ability to translate complex EHS requirements into practical operational expectations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with experience using trend analysis and leading indicators to drive decision making
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across a multi-site environment while maintaining a high level of field engagement
- Proven ability to drive accountability, follow-through, and closure of corrective actions
- Passion for employee engagement, proactive hazard identification, continuous improvement, and creating a strong safety culture
- Travel at least 25% of the time
