Medical Receptionist

Samaritan Daytop Village is a leading human services organization in New York State serving over 38,000 New Yorkers annually across more than 60 locations through Transitional Housing, Community Based Services, and Residential and Outpatient programs. This position is part of the Outpatient Division, which operates a diverse network of outpatient clinics, crisis stabilization and helpline centers, specialized educational programs, and community health centers, all delivering evidence-based treatment and care for individuals facing substance use and mental health challenges.

The Medical Receptionist welcomes all individuals with a warm yet professional demeanor, expertly managing multi-line phone communications and routing incoming calls. Seated at the front desk, they seamlessly balance patient scheduling, insurance verification through electronic health record portals, and HIPAA-compliant data management while maintaining a secure and welcoming environment.

Responsibilities

- Welcome clients and guests warmly while managing multi-line phone communications, taking messages, and routing calls professionally

- Manage patient scheduling efficiently and coordinate appointments

- Verify patient insurance information in electronic portals and enter data accurately into Electronic Health Records (EHR)

- Enforce facility security protocols including sign-in sheets, visitor badges, incident reporting, and safety drills

- Maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and healthcare privacy laws

- Secure HIPAA consent forms for external medical providers and correspondents

- Handle front desk administrative duties including sorting mail, processing packages, and managing digital filing systems

- Coordinate client transportation services and distribute transit cards as needed

- Provide coverage and additional administrative support for administrative assistants as needed

Qualifications

- High School Diploma or GED

- At least two years of proven experience as a front desk receptionist, preferably in a behavioral health or medical setting

- Ability to handle a busy front-desk atmosphere with strong multitasking skills and a customer-first approach

- Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Electronic Health Records (EHR), with the ability to learn and navigate new systems and programs

- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of program participants and ability to collaborate with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds

- Good interpersonal skills to interact professionally with staff, clients, and guests

- Ability to collaborate seamlessly across teams while taking ownership of independent tasks

Additional Information

This is a full-time non-exempt role with an hourly rate of $21.97-$22.52 (annualized at 35 hours a week to $40,000-$41,000) with a full benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 25 days of paid time off, access to a retirement account with an employer to match, tuition reimbursement and access to daily pay.

This role is located in Mariner's Harbor, Staten Island and has a schedule of Tuesday-Saturday 6am-2pm.
