Position Purpose
The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing daily department operations, including food production, merchandising, customer service, inventory management, food safety, and associate development. This position helps ensure the deli department achieves sales and profitability goals while delivering fresh, high-quality products and exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities
Department Operations
- Assist in managing daily deli department operations to ensure efficient production and customer service.
- Support execution of department sales plans, promotions, and merchandising programs.
- Ensure products are properly prepared, displayed, stocked, and rotated to maintain freshness and quality.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering to support customer demand.
- Help maintain department conditions that meet company standards.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide leadership and direction to deli associates in the absence of the Deli Manager.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and coaching associates.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a customer-focused culture.
- Support scheduling and labor planning to meet operational needs.
- Help ensure associates understand and follow company policies and procedures.
Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service and ensure customer needs are met promptly.
- Assist customers with product selection, special orders, catering inquiries, and meal solutions.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
- Build customer loyalty through friendly, knowledgeable service.
Food Production & Quality
- Assist in overseeing preparation of deli products including hot foods, salads, sandwiches, rotisserie items, and ready-to-eat meals.
- Ensure recipes, portion controls, and production standards are consistently followed.
- Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation throughout the department.
- Minimize shrink through proper forecasting, production planning, and inventory management.
Financial & Inventory Management
- Support achievement of sales, gross profit, labor, and shrink goals.
- Assist with inventory control, receiving, and ordering processes.
- Monitor pricing accuracy and promotional execution.
- Review department performance metrics and support continuous improvement efforts.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
- Maintain proper food handling, storage, temperature controls, and rotation procedures.
- Promote workplace safety and adherence to company compliance standards.
- Assist in preparing for internal audits and regulatory inspections.
