Job Description

The Diagnostic Imaging departments of Halton Healthcare take great pride in providing high-quality, safe care within a patient- and family-centred environment. Guided by our commitment to collaboration, respect, accountability and service excellence, the Diagnostic Imaging team works together to provide patients with timely access to safe and effective diagnostic services.

Nuclear Medicine is a specialized area of Diagnostic Imaging that combines advanced imaging technology with the use of radiopharmaceuticals to support the diagnosis and management of a wide range of clinical conditions. The Nuclear Medicine team works collaboratively with physicians, nursing, allied health professionals and other Diagnostic Imaging services to provide safe, efficient and high-quality patient care.

The Charge Technologist / Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), Nuclear Medicine provides day-to-day operational, clinical and professional leadership for the Nuclear Medicine program. The role functions as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team and provides leadership in the delivery of Nuclear Medicine services while maintaining the organization's radiation protection program and supporting compliance with applicable regulatory, professional and organizational requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

- Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Nuclear Medicine department, including patient bookings, wait-list priorities, staffing assignments, workflow and service availability to support timely access to care. 
- As a member of the Nuclear Medicine team, performs Nuclear Medicine procedures within professional scope and acts as a clinical resource for staff, complex studies, protocols and emerging practice needs. 
- Works collaboratively with physicians, Diagnostic Imaging leadership, clerical staff, other imaging modalities and clinical programs to facilitate safe, efficient and coordinated patient care. 
- Provides day-to-day supervision, direction and support to Nuclear Medicine staff, including work assignments, scheduling, coverage, coaching, competency development and performance feedback. 
- Serves as the Radiation Safety Officer, administering and maintaining the radiation protection program and promoting the ALARA principle to ensure the safe use, handling, storage, transport and disposal of radioactive materials. 
- Maintains regulatory readiness, including required licences, records, reports, radiation safety policies, staff training and coordination of regulatory inspections and follow-up activities. 
- Oversees radiation safety activities including personal dosimetry, contamination monitoring, sealed-source leak testing, survey-meter calibration, thyroid monitoring and investigation of radiation safety incidents or unusual exposures. 
- Coordinates equipment quality control, preventative maintenance and servicing, and supports the evaluation, planning and implementation of new equipment and technology. 
- In collaboration with of the Manager, supports Human Resources processes including recruitment, onboarding, attendance and payroll administration, performance management, staff development and education. 
- Support the Manager and Occupational Health in facilitating the safe return to work of staff members following short-term disabilities
- Supports fiscal responsibility through effective management of staffing, radiopharmaceuticals, supplies and other resources and contributes to operating and capital planning and variance management. 
- Participates in the ongoing monitoring of quality, safety, operational performance and patient experience indicators and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement. 
- Leads or participates in departmental quality improvement initiatives, projects, accreditation activities, regulatory inspections and organizational committees as required. 
- Promotes a respectful, inclusive and psychologically safe work environment that supports teamwork, accountability, staff development and continuous learning.

Qualifications

Halton Healthcare is seeking individuals who are competent in their chosen profession; patient/customer focused; team players; effective communicators; caring and respectful; and fiscally responsible.

- Graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology program. 
- Minimum five years of recent Nuclear Medicine clinical experience. 
- Current registration and in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) in the Nuclear Medicine specialty. 
- Current CPR certification. 
- Qualified to serve as the organization's designated Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for applicable CNSC-licensed activities and able to maintain any required CNSC certification. 
- Demonstrated charge, supervisory, team lead or project lead experience. 
- Experience with radiation safety programs, regulatory inspections, quality control, policy development and staff education is strongly preferred. 
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, coaching and leadership abilities with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational, critical-thinking, problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills. 
- Demonstrated knowledge of Nuclear Medicine practice, radiation protection principles, ALARA, quality control and applicable regulatory requirements. 
- Sound judgement and the ability to act decisively in response to clinical, operational and radiation-safety issues. 
- Ability to organize work, establish priorities, coordinate staffing and workflow, manage competing demands and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. 
- Demonstrated commitment to patient- and family-centred care, patient safety, service excellence, equity, inclusion and respectful teamwork.
- Ability to remain focused, professional and tactful while managing competing clinical and operational priorities.
- Proficiency with clinical information systems, scheduling and payroll tools, and Microsoft Office applications. 
- Satisfactory attendance and employment record.

Additional Information

Hours: Monday to Friday- 7.5 hour day shifts (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)

Salary:  $47.017 to $59.299 per hour
