Sr. Linux Site Reliability Engineer, Systems Reliability Engineering

As a Linux Senior SRE on the LXSRE team, you will play a key role in maintaining the stability, scalability, and automation of Tesla’s core Linux infrastructure. You’ll be instrumental in modernizing the Linux platform suite toward a containerized architecture. This is a hands-on role that blends deep systems expertise with engineering, automation, and operational excellence. You’ll work closely with engineering, security, and platform teams to ensure high availability, performance, and observability across services. You’ll lead initiatives to modernize infrastructure while maintaining backward compatibility and minimizing disruption.

A key part of this role is collaborating closely with software development teams to design, build, and maintain internal tools, automation scripts, and end-to-end workflows that reduce toil, improve reliability, and accelerate deployment velocity.

- Design, implement, and maintain scalable Linux platform infrastructure for production workloads
- Manage and optimize core systems: configuration management, repositories, monitoring, SMTP/MTA, and FTP-as-a-Service
- Maintain and evolve bare metal and VM image pipelines and lifecycle management for enterprise Linux environments
- Support and enhance a custom Linux agent for fleet-wide telemetry and orchestration, working closely with software development teams
- Develop and deliver production-grade internal tools, automation pipelines, and reusable workflows in collaboration with software engineering to improve platform efficiency and developer experience
- Conduct proof-of-concept (PoC) testing for new tooling and systems including hypervisors, storage solutions, software operations tools, and security tooling before potential adoption
- Lead the migration of legacy services, tools, and workloads to containerized environments such as Kubernetes, including architecture design, tooling, and operational best practices
- Develop and enforce automation, CI/CD, and GitOps workflows using infrastructure-as-code (IaC), with a focus on reliability, scalability, and auditability
- Troubleshoot complex system, network, and application-level issues with minimal downtime, as part of a rotational on-call responsibility
- Build and maintain observability tooling and centralized logging stacks for proactive incident detection and response, while documenting systems, processes, and runbooks to reduce toil

- 7+ years of experience in Linux systems administration, SRE, or infrastructure engineering
- Expert-level proficiency in Linux system internals, kernel tuning, networking, and security hardening
- Strong experience with configuration management tools (Puppet, Ansible, or similar)
- Deep hands-on experience with containerization (LXD, Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes, Helm)
- Experience with VM image creation, management, and automation (e.g., Packer, custom build pipelines)
- Experience leading or contributing to large-scale platform migrations
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent practical experience
