General Purpose

Computing and Communications Services (CCS) is the central IT department at the University of Guelph, providing core IT services and technology solutions to the U of G community. Reporting to the Product Manager (SIS/RIS/Software Distribution), Enterprise Applications, the Senior Analyst has advanced technical, analytical, and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to contribute to the design, implementation, and evolution of enterprise research systems and integrations in support of the University’s IT and research administration goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical leadership, solution design, and operational support for Research Information Systems and related applications for the Research Services Office.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Contributing to the design, implementation, configuration, and ongoing evolution of research administration systems, including cloud-based SaaS platforms and internally developed applications, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and institutional standards.

- Designing and supporting secure, scalable integrations and data solutions across research systems, including APIs, middleware, data pipelines, ETL processes, and reporting or analytics requirements.

- Providing advanced technical leadership for complex, multi-system environments, including diagnosing and resolving issues across application, integration, and data layers.

- Managing system administration, lifecycle, and change activities for assigned applications, including upgrades, patches, vendor releases, environment changes, testing coordination, deployment, and documentation.

- Conducting business and systems analysis activities, translating stakeholder, operational, and regulatory requirements into technical designs, integrations, and system enhancements.

- Coordinating technical engagement with vendors, external partners, business units, and internal IT teams to evaluate solutions, manage issues, and ensure deliverables align with institutional requirements.

- Ensuring systems and integrations meet security, privacy, compliance, data quality, and governance expectations, including applicable legislation and institutional policies.

- Identifying and advancing continuous improvement opportunities, including modernization of legacy systems, data migration, integrations, reduction of technical debt, and improvement of operational support practices.

- Contributing to shared modernization, automation, and operational improvement practices across Enterprise Applications teams.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering with a minimum of five (5) years of related work experience with enterprise systems and supporting technologies, preferably in higher education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Experience supporting, implementing, enhancing, and managing the lifecycle of enterprise applications in complex, multi-system environments, preferably within research administration, higher education, or similarly regulated domains.

- Strong experience with system and integration design, including APIs, web services, middleware, data transformation frameworks, hybrid integration architectures, and vendor-managed SaaS platforms.

- Strong knowledge of relational databases, SQL, enterprise data management practices, and the use of data to support reporting, analytics, and operational decision-making.

- Experience with application development, scripting, configuration, and support using modern technologies, including diagnosing and resolving complex code, data, integration, and application issues.

- Experience with collaborative development tools and practices, such as Azure DevOps or similar platforms, for work management, version control, and release coordination.

- Demonstrated ability to translate business, operational, and regulatory requirements into practical technical solutions, including system designs, integration approaches, and implementation plans.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions, collaborate across business and IT teams, coordinate with vendors, and communicate complex information clearly to varied audiences.

- Experience applying security, privacy, compliance, data quality, and governance considerations within system, integration, and operational support activities, including awareness of relevant frameworks or legislation such as FIPPA and PIPEDA.

Any experience with the following will be considered an asset and should be highlighted in your application:

- Previous experience supporting research administration systems, or equivalent, and modules within a higher education or regulated environment, such as Human Ethics, Animal Care and Animal Facilities Management, Grants and Contracts, or Biosafety, including coordination across integrated systems;

- Experience with enterprise integrations and data ecosystems, including APIs, web services, data transformation processes, reporting or analytics platforms, and related data quality or governance considerations;

- Experience supporting systems operating within security, privacy, compliance, and records management frameworks, including appropriate handling of sensitive research and institutional data and awareness of FIPPA, PIPEDA, PHIPA, PCI, or related policies;

- Experience with containerization, modern application deployment approaches, and application architecture patterns, including microservices, API-driven design, infrastructure-as-code, and managing stateful versus stateless application components;

- Experience supporting student systems and processes, such as Ellucian Colleague Student, Slate, or CourseLeaf, in a cross-team support context;

- Experience with project management and business analysis practices in an agile or hybrid environment.

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
