Position Summary
We are seeking a Master Mechanic with deep expertise in surface‑mining heavy equipment to support our open‑pit operations. You’ll be responsible for keeping high‑production fleets running safely and efficiently — from ultra‑class haul trucks to hydraulic shovels and support equipment. This role demands technical mastery, field‑repair capability, and the ability to work independently across a large mine site.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on surface‑mining equipment, including:
- Haul trucks (CAT 777/773/745)
- Hydraulic shovels and excavators
- Dozers (CAT D10/D9/D8), graders (CAT 18/16 Class), loaders (CAT 966 to 992), water trucks, and support units
- Conduct major component rebuilds: engines, transmissions, torque converters, final drives, hydraulic pumps/valves.
- Perform field repairs in remote pit locations with service trucks and mobile tooling.
- Lead root‑cause failure analysis and implement long‑term corrective actions.
- Execute and improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment availability.
- Mentor junior technicians and provide technical guidance to operations.
- Maintain accurate service logs, parts usage, and equipment condition reports.
- Ensure all work meets MSHA, environmental, and company safety standards.
Qualifications
- 7–10+ years of experience maintaining heavy equipment in surface mining or large‑scale earthmoving .
- Master level proficiency in diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, CAN‑bus diagnostics, and machine control systems.
- Experience with OEM diagnostic software (CAT ET, Komatsu KOMTRAX, Liebherr diagnostics).
- Strong understanding of high‑hour equipment, wear patterns, and component life‑cycle management.
- Ability to work safely in active mining environments, around blasting schedules, and in extreme weather.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL or equipment‑operator experience preferred.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, and overtime as needed.
Requirements
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and handle heavy tooling.
- Comfortable climbing on large equipment, working at heights, and working in dusty, hot, or cold conditions.
- Ability to stand, kneel, and work in awkward positions for extended periods.
