HIRING RANGE: $17.75 - $19.00/Hour
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Head Weight Room Attendant provides oversight of the fitness floor and fitness programming, acts as the manager on duty, assists participants, ensures safety of our members and guests, and provides leadership for all Weight Room Attendant staff.
Wheat Ridge is located on the ancestral homelands of Native peoples who lived on and stewarded this land long before its incorporation. During the 1859 Gold Rush, the City was a rest stop for miners and later named for its golden wheat fields. As unsuccessful miners turned to farming, the area thrived with orchards, vegetable fields, and later, greenhouses, earning the title Carnation City. Incorporated in 1969, Wheat Ridge now offers a central location with easy access to Denver and the Rocky Mountains. It operates as a home-rule city with a council-manager government, where the elected council sets policy, and the manager oversees daily operations and budgeting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for oversight of the Weight Room Attendants, general maintenance of fitness equipment, cleanliness and general janitorial duties on equipment, and assisting the Fitness Coordinator in fitness floor operations.
- Enforce the rules and regulations of the fitness floor, and giving oversight to assigned weight room staff.
- Ensure the safety of all participants, checking for proper equipment usage and appropriate attire is worn, enforce safety standards and regulations in the area and proper use of equipment and administer/assist in providing first aid as needed.
- Monitor and maintain all areas and equipment assigned and enforce general building policies in all areas of the facility.
- Check patrons for authorization to be in area on a random basis.
- Responsible for keeping all equipment assigned to area safe, orderly and in sanitary condition and reports needed repairs and/or provides repairs.
- Maintain weight equipment to assure efficient operation, equipment records and assist in reviewing equipment needs and purchasing.
- Provides preventative maintenance of fitness equipment to ensure safety and proper working conditions.
- Responsible for managing assigned personnel to include instructions and daily direction, schedule and assign work to employees, provide direction to improve performance as required, and provide input to the coordinator regarding employee actions.
- May assist in the recruitment of subordinates; assist in training staff and provide assistance to supervisor in other areas as needed.
- Plan, schedule, and provide fitness orientations, ensuring coverage for drop-in and scheduled times throughout the week.
- Train weight room staff on requirements for orientations; including the facility rules and regulations, and general knowledge of proper use of equipment, and proper etiquette.
- Assist Fitness Coordinator in responding to the needs of members and guests.
- Contact program participants, set up or break down of programs, special event assistance, and/or additional assignments as directed by the Fitness Coordinator or Supervisor.
- Responsible for securing substitutes in their absence, within reasonable advance notice.
- Works under the direct supervision of the assigned Recreation Coordinator or Recreation Supervisor.
- Acts as the Lead worker, giving oversight to assigned staff.
Qualifications
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge - General knowledge of fitness operations, including use of machines, and general equipment maintenance.
- Skills - Demonstrated skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.
- Abilities - Enforce safety regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially; analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper course of action to be taken; customer service skills, establish and maintain effective working relationships; give direction and oversight to assigned staff; express ideas clearly and concisely.
EVIDENCE OF QUALIFICATIONS:
- Training – High School diploma or equivalent; general knowledge of fitness and use of machines.
- Experience - Previous supervisory or lead work required, maintenance of fitness machines and/or general maintenance preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age; American Red Cross Adult CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications or equivalent required within 60 days of hire.
HOURS OF WORK, LOCATION, AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Variable hours at the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center. Evenings and weekends required. Work is performed primarily indoors typically standing or walking, bending, crouching or stooping; lifting objects weighing up to and over 50 lbs. Work requires considerable muscular exertion at times and continuous mental and/or visual demand where the flow of work is repetitive or duties are diverse and/or hazardous and require continuous alertness and/or activity. Interaction with co-workers and customers is an everyday occurrence and requires ability to direct and instruct; requires a high degree of manual skill; ability to hear and use hands to fingers. Environment involves exposure to noise and machinery and its moving parts; occasional slippery or uneven walking surfaces and wetness. Work entails working closely with others with close supervision. Ability to properly operate or use all equipment necessary to operate a weight room, i.e.: weight machines, free weights, stair master, elliptical, bicycle, treadmill, rower ergometer, adaptive equipment, other resistance machines or accessories.
