About this role

Smith Industries is seeking an experienced AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to serve as Project Quality Lead on a 3–6 month assignment. This role leads project QA/QC activities and performs visual and final weld inspections to ASME codes. You'll make sure all welded work meets code, customer and project quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform visual (VT) and final weld inspections to applicable ASME codes, including Section VIII, Section IX and B31.1/B31.3
• Lead project quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) activities and serve as the primary quality contact for the project team
• Review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) and welder performance qualification records for code compliance
• Verify fit-up, dimensions and weld quality before, during and after welding
• Prepare, review and maintain inspection reports, nonconformance reports (NCRs) and quality records
• Partner with fabrication, production and client representatives to resolve quality issues and nonconformances
• Compile and support final documentation packages and project turnover

Required Qualifications
• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
• 10+ years of experience in welding inspection, quality control or quality assurance
• Strong working knowledge of ASME codes and standards
• Proven experience performing visual and final inspections in a fabrication or project environment
• Ability to work 50–55 hours per week, Monday–Friday, for the full assignment
• Strong technical documentation, reporting and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience as a Quality Lead, QA/QC Supervisor or Lead Inspector
• Working knowledge of nondestructive examination (NDE) methods: UT, RT, MT, PT
• ASNT Level II certification
• Experience with pressure vessels

• 1099 or W-2 options available
• Monday–Friday, 50–55 hours per week
• 3–6 month contract assignment
