The Payments & Strategy Division of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City provides leadership, central bank services, analytical support, policy analysis and research to support the Federal Reserve System’s mission to promote a U.S. payment system that is efficient, safe and broadly accessible. Within this Payments & Strategy Division, we have a challenging and rewarding career opportunity for a management position within the Credit, Reserves and Risk Management (CRRM) Department.
As a member of the CRRM Department, you will directly contribute to the trust and confidence in the nation’s financial system through challenging work assignments and rewarding professional experiences. CRRM is responsible for operating the discount window by providing credit to 10th District institutions through fully collateralized loans, evaluating requests of institutions seeking access to the payment system, and monitoring the financial condition of all 10th District institutions to mitigate risk to the Reserve Banks and the payment system. CRRM also is responsible for facilitating the implementation of monetary policy through reserve account administration, such as the payment of interest on reserves.
As a manager in the CRRM Department, you will partner with other leaders to lead our team, champion the Bank’s mission to promote economic and financial stability, and drive cross-functional departmental success. In this role, you will model the Bank’s values, serve as a steward of our culture, and demonstrate strong leadership competencies.
As a leader in a newly established division, you will help drive change, optimize processes and support the team through organizational transitions providing clear direction. You will be responsible for developing your team, establishing connections across the organization and providing strategic input to influence business strategy and modernize processes related to liquidity provisioning and access to the payment system. You will be expected to work amongst various teams and colleagues to determine strategic goals and initiatives and make risk-informed decisions. You will also be expected to communicate, facilitate, and deliver information and presentations to a wide variety of individuals, including high-level leadership. The ideal candidate has a background in safety and soundness examinations and a strong interest in the payments ecosystem, particularly in understanding payment flows, infrastructure and innovation.
Key Activities:
- Applies broad perspective and technical knowledge to manage staff and workflows to meet the objectives of CRRM Department, Payments & Strategy Division, or Federal Reserve System guidance. Provides direction for and influences decisions to ensure appropriate consideration of broader context and impact. Makes sound and difficult decisions in compliance with Bank and System policies and procedures.
- Prioritizes projects and workflow of professional staff to ensure efficient utilization of resources and completion of work, develops standards and policies, reviews written reports and correspondence for accuracy, consistency, style, and clarity. Oversees the tactical execution of core responsibilities and division initiatives, including development and improvement of key processes. Effectively delegates assignments to provide reasonable challenge and developmental opportunities for staff to strengthen depth and breadth of knowledge. Facilitates delegated assignments by defining parameters, balancing business priorities with individual workloads, and removing barriers.
- Conducts or leads operational workforce planning for the department, addressing current priorities and emerging risks. Reviews resumes, conducts interviews, and selects hires based on evaluation of candidate fit. Attracts, motivates, and retains strong performers. Recognizes the full potential of employees and provides them with needed resources, experiences, and effective coaching and feedback on performance and development areas. Addresses personnel matters in a timely and effective manner.
- Engages in developing and executing established goals and objectives to support achievement of the strategic initiatives. Ensures staff understand and remain focused on department goals and objectives. Interacts with other members of management, including senior management at the Reserve Bank, Board of Governors, or other regulators, to resolve issues and/or provide continuous improvement recommendations related to department functions, policies, and processes to minimize risks. May provide project management or other support for Department, Division, Bank, or System workgroups or committees, often handling diverse stakeholder groups.
- Confronts problems decisively, taking timely and appropriate actions; seeks creative and innovative solutions. Involves others in decision making when appropriate to take advantage of their talents and skills.
- Represents the Bank’s official position on matters and fosters productive relationships with outside parties, including bankers, regulators, Federal Reserve System colleagues, industry professionals, and the public.
What we are looking for:
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills, including ability to demonstrate well-reasoned decision making in situations that involve complex or unique issues, public scrutiny, market reactions, and potentially adversarial circumstances.

- Broad knowledge of Federal Reserve operations, regulations, and policies.
Qualifications:
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Typically requires 6 or more years of experience with banking and regulatory activities, which includes demonstrated leadership experience, or equivalent relevant regulatory/supervisory leadership experience in another organization, or an equivalent combination.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Safety and soundness supervisory perspective/commissioned examiner credentials
- Risk management experience and/or payments subject matter expertise in the financial services industry
