About this role
We are currently seeking US-based American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to provide professional interpretation services between ASL and spoken English.
The interpreter will work with Deaf, DeafBlind, hard-of-hearing, and oral individuals across a variety of settings, helping ensure clear, accurate, and effective communication.
Candidate Qualifications
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
- Minimum 1 year of interpreting experience preferred
- RID/CDI certification preferred
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the experiences and communication needs of Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong written English skills
- Proficiency with computers, email, internet, electronic scheduling, and basic office applications
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to accurately convey concepts and meaning without omissions, additions, or personal interpretation
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and effective interpretation between ASL and spoken English
- Follow applicable national, state, and local licensing or certification requirements
- Adhere to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct
- Complete required documentation, assignments, and administrative tasks accurately and on time
- Adapt quickly to new technologies, systems, and processes
- Work effectively in a fast-paced and regulated environment
- Communicate regularly with your Team Leader and follow operational guidelines
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Technical Requirements
- 90% English proficiency
- Windows 10+ or Mac
- Computer or laptop
- Reliable wired internet connection
- Minimum 20 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload
- Webcam
- USB wired headset
- Appropriate background for video interpretation — use a solid, contrasting color such as royal blue, charcoal, or bright green
