Concrete Estimator

Morgan Corp. is seeking an experienced Concrete Estimator to join our Industrial Division Estimating Team in Duncan, South Carolina. Our Industrial Division performs complex civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical construction for clients in the power generation, water/wastewater, marine, mining, manufacturing, and other industrial process markets. The Concrete Estimator is responsible for developing complete estimates for self-performed structural concrete work and the associated scopes necessary to execute the work. The successful candidate should have a strong understanding of concrete construction means and methods and be capable of evaluating constructability, sequencing, access, production, equipment requirements, and project-specific risks. This position is best suited for someone with meaningful concrete field experience who has transitioned into estimating, project management, or preconstruction and can apply that practical construction knowledge to the estimating process.

Work Environment:
This position is based in Morgan Corp.'s Duncan, South Carolina office. Limited travel is required for pre-bid meetings, project site visits, and other estimating or preconstruction activities.

Key Responsibilities

The Concrete Estimator will independently develop detailed estimates from project drawings, specifications, site information, and other bid documents. Responsibilities include:
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for concrete, formwork, reinforcing steel, embeds, grout, and other structural concrete components.
- Develop labor crews, production rates, labor hours, material requirements, and equipment costs.
- Evaluate construction means and methods, including forming systems, pour sequencing, reinforcing installation, concrete placement methods, access, lifting requirements, and temporary works.
- Develop project schedules and evaluate how sequencing, production, access, and project constraints affect estimated costs.
- Identify project risks, constructability concerns, scope gaps, and opportunities to improve execution or provide a competitive advantage.
- Develop pricing for ancillary scopes associated with the concrete work, including excavation and backfill, structural embeds and fabricated components, trench drains, survey/layout, concrete demolition, coatings, waterproofing, specialty items, and other related work.
- Develop scopes of work and solicit pricing from subcontractors, suppliers, and fabricators.
- Review subcontractor and vendor proposals for scope coverage, exclusions, qualifications, and alignment with the bid documents.
- Develop bid clarifications, assumptions, exclusions, and other proposal deliverables.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to evaluate existing conditions, access, logistics, and construction constraints.
- Collaborate with the Estimating Manager and other discipline estimators to develop an integrated project estimate, schedule, and proposal.
- Participate in estimate reviews and clearly communicate the basis of estimate, significant risks, opportunities, and proposed construction approach.
- Support project handoff and preconstruction activities for successful bids to ensure estimating assumptions, commitments, risks, and planned means and methods are effectively transferred to the project team.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Preferred Experience
- 5+ years of concrete construction field experience preferred, with experience involving structural cast-in-place concrete.
- Experience estimating complex structural concrete work in industrial, heavy civil, power, water/wastewater, marine, manufacturing, or similar construction environments.
- Demonstrated ability to perform detailed concrete quantity takeoffs and develop complete estimates.
- Experience developing labor crews, production rates, equipment requirements, and construction means and methods.
- Experience identifying and estimating ancillary scopes associated with structural concrete construction.
- Experience developing scopes of work, soliciting subcontractor/vendor pricing, and evaluating quotations.
- Working knowledge of construction safety requirements, scheduling, constructability, and project controls.
Software Experience with the following is preferred:
- PlanSwift or comparable takeoff software
- Bluebeam Revu
- Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Primavera P6 or comparable scheduling software
- Construction estimating software
