Mechanical Integration Lead, OMHS

Description

As an Operations Engineer (L4 - IC) on the Mechanical Integration team, you will contribute technical expertise to the installation and deployment of material handling equipment (MHE) across Amazon fulfillment center sites. Working under the guidance of the Site Deployment Manager and senior mechanical leads, you will support zone-level mechanical installation activities including structural steel, conveyor placement, mechanical connections, and quality control. This role requires solid hands-on mechanical skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams to deliver safe, high-quality installations at multiple sites.

Mechanical Installation Support

Support mechanical installation crews deploying conveyor systems, sortation equipment, and associated structural systems

Assist with structural header steel installation including hanging steel, prebuilding supports, and anchoring to building structure

Support conveyor prep and placement operations including rigging, lifting, staging, and setting conveyor sections into final positions

Assist conveyor connections and belting crews with mechanical alignment, bed connections, squaring, leveling, and hardware tightening

Support side guide and netting installation ensuring proper alignment and tension

Assist with belt installation including belting and lacing on aligned conveyor sections

Support pneumatic and air systems installation including air connections, pressure testing, and leak verification

Coordinate with the logistics and receiving team to help ensure materials are inventoried, staged, and distributed to work zones on schedule

Quality Control & Commissioning Support

Support mechanical QC and commissioning activities including alignment verification, hardware inspections, and match-mark verification

Assist with conveyor run-in testing, belt tracking verification, and belt tension checks

Help identify and document mechanical punch list items

Support IOQ checks and help verify mechanical systems meet specifications before handoff to electrical teams

Assist with match-marking of nuts and bolts to verify tightness across all connections

Technical Contribution & Standards

Apply mechanical engineering knowledge to support automation initiatives at assigned sites

Implement technical solutions under the guidance of senior team members

Follow mechanical installation standards and best practices, suggesting improvements when identified

Help develop and maintain technical documentation including work instructions, installation SOPs, and QC checklists

Participate in design reviews and contribute to mechanical engineering excellence

Identify and support process improvements to increase installation efficiency and quality

Project Coordination

Support delivery of projects with site-level impact

Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, and operations teams

Coordinate with the electrical integration team to help ensure proper sequencing, with mechanical work complete in each zone before electrical teams mobilize

Assist in managing relationships with mechanical vendors and partners

Contribute to achieving safety, timeline, cost, and quality metrics across assigned zones

Provide technical insights and installation progress updates to project leads and managers

A day in the life
As an Operations Engineer on the Mechanical Integration team, you start your day at the site coordination meeting, listening to progress updates against the installation schedule and noting any material or sequencing issues flagged by the crew leads. From there, you head to the construction floor to support your assigned zone. You might spend the morning helping the structural steel team verify header hanger loads and anchor points, then move to assist the conveyor prep crew with staging and rigging sections into position. You work alongside the connections team to check alignment, squaring, and torque values on hardware. When rigging challenges come up, you help troubleshoot solutions and coordinate with the logistics team on material deliveries. In the afternoon, you walk your zone with the QC checklist, verifying that match-marks are applied, belt tension is within spec, and pneumatic connections pass pressure tests. Before zones are handed off to the electrical team, you confirm all mechanical work is complete and documented. You close out the day by updating your zone status, flagging any open items for the daily business review, and confirming tomorrow's material needs with the receiving team.

About the team
The OMHS Installation & Deployment team supports the deployment and integration of automation and material handling systems across Amazon's operations network. The team works cross-functionally with engineering, construction, operations, supply chain, vendors, and field execution partners to deliver safe, scalable, and reliable systems.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree
- Experience in engineering including a supervisory role managing people
- Experience in a fast-paced, automated, industrial, logistics, production or manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience of automated equipment including packaging machinery, sortation and conveyor systems
- Experience in preventative maintenance systems

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
